Yeah use the handbrake for a hill start till you get used to it. I probably did that at least once last year. I drive bare foot a lot but you should stick to wearing shoes while you learn
i never liked the handbrake method. what i kind of taught myself to do is just have my right foot on the brake, and let my left foot off the clutch until it starts to grab, then when i switch my right foot over to the gas i dont roll back at all. its worked perfect since ive done it
Yeah start on an empty hill and keep right foot on brake while down on clutch. Release clutch until you feel the car being held back by the brakes and then take right foot off brake and begin using the gas pedal and do your normal transitioning. It becomes second nature after a few times, trust me.
Forgive me if I'm wrong. I was told by a mechanic who is a friend that the handbrake method is better since it is safer and also reduces the risk on burning your clutch.
Fwiw, I too drive a black 5spd sedan lx. 02 though. Congrats OP!
on a hill at a light i learned by pushing in the clutch and let it roll, then lift it up. this will teach you the clutches sweet spot. i still do it sometimes for fun lol
going uphill, i just shift to neutral if i have to stop and do a quick shift and a little rev then go.. my hand brakes have to be pulled up high before it really stops the car without brake support, and im also too lazy..
