5 Speed Swap M/T ECU Issue

Well for those who haven't seen the A/t and M/t ECU side by side... They are structurally identical and there's actually 4 plug sockets on both ECUs, the difference is there's no pins in the 4th plug socket on the M/t ECU...That's certainly the easy way to tell them apart. THing was, I...

5 Speed Swap M/T ECU Issue

I just did this last month. After I found out I'd been running on an auto ECU that a 6th gen member sold me as a M/T...(I'd been driving around with a surging idle, no Speedo, no V-tec for a month and couldn't understand why, until I checked my OBD2 codes, and it was throwing a couple "A/T...

    Post 5-speed swap...still no Speedo..Help!

Well guys, that was it ... Problem solved. I had the 2000 (actually dated aug '99) manual ecu installed today and my speedo came to life as well as v-tec. The crazy surging idle went away and it purrs like a kitten. My coolant temp gauge seems to work, but that's good info to know. I guess...

    Post 5-speed swap...still no Speedo..Help!

I had no reason to believe the M/T ECU looked any different in that regard when compared to the A/T....till I finally got my hands on one yesterday. Lloyd

    Post 5-speed swap...still no Speedo..Help!

Hi...Well I think I may have discovered why I have no speedo after my 5-speed swap. I bought an ECU from a 6th gen member that I was told was for a manual car of my year. But after driving around for a month with no speedo & no V-tec, thinking it was a bad VSS or my wiring job, I finally...

    Post 5-speed swap...still no Speedo..Help!

I swapped from auto to a manual 5 speed in my '98 coupe recently. I managed to get the car running again and got my backup lights working. Problem is , I can't get my speedo or Vtec working. I wired the VSS up as per Turbowa's Write-up: -black/yellow running from VSS to drivers-side...

    upper control arm ball joint

I have a pair of upper ball joints off my '98 that seem to be in good shape if anyone would like to buy them. $30 for the pair plus shipping. I installed a camber kit which included replacement ball-joints with an adjustable offset mounting arrangement, so I pressed the originals out and...

    5-speed swap pics

Heh...the reason I swapped to a manual 5-speed was my auto was leaking fluid from somewhere, couldn't determine where exactly as it just accumulated on the bottom seam, but I couldn't stop it with new axle seals and concluded it had to be a main seal. Also as far as driving it , it was starting...

    5-speed swap pics

Yeah those are all great points...I just brought that up because at the time I finished my swap mechanically , I was a bit freaked about messing with the wiring. I wanted to know what was the minimum I had to do to see if the car would start and I couldn't get anyone to respond on 6thgen....So...

Wow Bjorkmae...You're superhuman to do that job in 2 days. Took me that long just to get my rusted brake discs off after I stripped the screws out :) Hey you said above to depin #10 on plug D and pin it in #10 on plug C...Don't you mean #23 on plug C? ....I'm looking at a chart of the plug...

That's a magnetic drain plug. It picks up tiny metal fragments that wear off the internal gears and keeps them from acting as abrasives in the fluid, shortening tranny life. We're seeing the fragment sludge following the lines of the plug's magnetic field

here's the manual 5-speed just as we got it bolted in. Getting the auto tranny out and the new one in is about the only times I absolutely needed another person to help.

Here's my auto tranny finally removed from the car ...Took me a week or more to get this far....I was pretty careful and took alot of photos for reference. Did I mention this was my first serious mechanical effort?...heh....YEah all I'd done before this was lowered my suspension, replaced a...

Here's my new clutch & brake pedals from my donor car. The brake pedal is a bitch. Getting the auto one off and the new one in was a battle because of the top bolt. The Clutch pedal was even worse..mainly because of my home-made clutch reinforcement bracket. Which I made from a spare brake...
