Re: Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

I placed an extra washer under the adjusting nut and that helped create enough clearance between the nut and timing cover to slip the rubber washer over the nut.

Re: Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

Thanks, that's good to know.

I might put another (metal) washer underneath the tensioning nut so that it sits taller relative to the lower cover, which should make it easier to get the rubber...

Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

Putting things back together after a timing belt job and after installing the lower timing cover, I'm trying to slip the rubber washer over the tension adjusting nut. There isn't enough clearance...

Re: What else to replace/service while I'm replacing timing belt?

Thanks. Plugs are relatively new, and I will check coolant hoses.

I'm really hoping the seals I'm replacing will resolve the oil leak I have on that side of the engine. Hoping it's not the seals...

Re: code P1491 - EGR Valve Insufficient Lift - safe to drive?

I reset the CEL and went on the trip. CEL didn't come back on during that trip. No pending codes either.

I removed the EGR and the pintle was stuck closed (would not open when I applied battery...

Re: Seat belt buckle screws - what are these (not Torx)?

My local Honda dealer was willing to warranty it, so I had them take care of it.

code P1491 - EGR Valve Insufficient Lift - safe to drive?

2001 Accord I4. I got a CEL today and pulled the code. It's P1491 - EGR Valve Insufficient Lift. Car seems to idle and run fine.

I've got a 500mi road trip tomorrow. Is it safe to drive the car or...

What else to replace/service while I'm replacing timing belt?

2001 Accord I4 MT

I'll be replacing the following parts, and wondering if there's anything else I should be replacing or cleaning while I'm in these areas.

Timing belt and front-of-engine...

Seat belt buckle screws - what are these (not Torx)?

I've got a SRS code 9-3 (driver's seat belt buckle). It's probably the well known issue with the microswitch plunger. I've read online that on various other Hondas/Acuras, the buckle uses torx...

Re: Multiple leaks on '99 F23A4

Yes, if you're hammering the pin, this job is a pain.

Use a motorcycle chain tool instead (I got one from Hazard Fraught), and replacing the distributor shaft seal becomes an easy job.

OP, you...

Re: common oil leak sources?

I guess I'm confused. If the oil is being burned up due to bad piston rings, wouldn't you get blue smoke from the tailpipe?

Seems from what I'm reading 1qt every 1k miles is pretty bad. Mine has...

Re: common oil leak sources?

Do you notice blue smoke or smell burning oil?

Have you done a compression test? Is your gas mileage good?

I don't have the obvious symptoms of lots of oil being burned (blue smoke, oil...

Re: common oil leak sources?

Yeah, I'd think a leak from the oil pan gasket would leave quite the mess on the floor. But next time I'm under the car, I will take a look around the oil pan, just to be sure.

Yes, I replaced the...

Re: common oil leak sources?

What is this part? It sits on top of the transmission housing and looks pretty grimy. Not sure oil is fed through it though (and I haven't noticed any issues with the manual transmission, so I don't...

common oil leak sources?

I'm going through a quart of oil every 1k miles. There was some obvious leaking around and under the distributor, so I replaced the distributor O-ring and distributor shaft seal (there was a little...

Re: Bleed clutch without removing front motor mount?

You guys are right - removing at least the upper portion of the front engine mount (the part that attaches to the engine block), would make for much easier access.

As it turns out, there's some...

Bleed clutch without removing front motor mount?

2001 I4 MT
I'm looking to replace flush the clutch fluid (it's still using the original fluid) - I figure after 17 years, I should probably take care of this.

Here's a pic of the clutch slave...

Re: Coupe inner tail light removal

There are some small gaps in the weatherstripping and you can see these gaps between the trunk lid and tail light assembly. But the weatherstripping is not in such terrible shape that I want to deal...

Re: Coupe inner tail light removal

Got it off - threaded each of the 10 nuts back on a few threads, then whacked them all with a mallet. The outer gasketing was sticking to the trunk lid, so whacking the mounting bolts helped loosen...

Coupe inner tail light removal

I'm replacing the tail light gaskets and the outer tail lights were easy enough to remove and reinstall. But how do you remove the inner (trunk lid) tail lights on a 6th gen coupe?

The manual...

Re: VTEC solenoid gasket info

Thanks. It would have been a pain to have to drain coolant and disconnect coolant line to remove the vtec solenoid.

By "valve cover gasket", I assume you're referring to the head cover gasket?

Re: VTEC solenoid gasket info

Think I've got a leak from the vtec solenoid. Perhaps the distributor too. Not sure if there are any other gaskets on the passenger side of the engine that might be an issue (don't think it's the...

Re: DIY SCS Service Connector and SRS Reset

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I'm not going to pay the Honda dealer an evaluation fee (unless it's $20 or less) just so they can confirm a code that I already pulled.

If any of you guys has a DIY...

Re: DIY SCS Service Connector and SRS Reset

Thanks to the OP, though I suppose he'll never see this.

SRS light was on because of code 9-3 (drivers side seat belt buckle), a common issue.

Performed the reset using 2 paper clips, and SRS...
