1998 V6 Coupe no start, clicking from main relay, transmission shift solenoids.

Hello everyone. Not really urgent, but it's a no start, so I guess this is the place. Car in question is a 1998 V6 Coupe with 266k km on it. I last drove it in November after putting a transmission in it, and it ran perfectly fine then. The battery went completely dead over the winter, and I...

    RL Wheels

I ran 16" OZs with a +44 or +42 offset this past summer; they barely cleared the front brakes.

    RL Wheels

I'm pretty sure stock tire size is 205/60R15, not 70R15. Going wider often causes issues, especially with the rear swaybar links.

    wtb 5spd trans mount bracket

Is it a piece of rubber glued to a piece of steel? Similar to the V6 ones? If so, they are cheap aftermarket. The front one for my 02 was $17 CAD brand new.

    Transmission Issues (not my DD)

All the 6th gens I've worked on have been V-6, so yours will be different. Any pics of the rust? Also I wonder if the drain for the AC is in a different spot on a 4-cyl car, so maybe that rust problem is a 4-cyl only problem. If you're only doing the rear beam, it might be possible to leave...

    Please help. Oil leak

Since you're saying driver's side, I am assuming you are 4-cyl. Is it definitely oil? I know on V6s many people have been fooled into doing cam seals by leaky power steering pumps. By your last post, though, I'm guessing you are pretty sure it's oil, and pretty confident of your diagnosis...

    Transmission Issues (not my DD)

I see you are in Chicago, which sounds like a place that probably salts the roads, so you probably have some rust. Are you talking about the whole subframe or just the front half? I didn't have to reove the rear beam of the subframe for the transmission; the last time I did that it was in that...

    Transmission woes. (DD)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbVmrwD8QT8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfdRD-agb8s Here are some videos that are worth your while, they are a teardown and rebuild of transmissions in our family. The teardown is a 99tl I think, its only major difference is that the Accord lacks the oil...

    Transmission Issues (not my DD)

So you're fixing it, eh? Good. It'll be better than anything else you'll be able to get for a few thousand bucks. You'll miss the V6. You planning on doing it on the ground or you have a hoist? Trust me, this is the time to call in favours to your friend with a hoist. I am SORE today hahaha.

    Transmission Issues (not my DD)

Yeah, the silver car was good to me. I actually just used the alternator from it in Connie on Sunday afternoon. I'm going to take the green car for a longer drive tomorrow, it's supposed to be +7. I think that's like mid-40s american. You get that civic rebuild running yet??

    Transmission Issues (not my DD)

I haven't noticed it, but then I haven't really been looking for it, either. Probably helps that the AC doesn't get used often around here. I'll take a look tomorrow when I don't feel so awful. The way I feel today makes me feel old after fighting with cars all weekend. The AC on Connie...

    Transmission Issues (not my DD)

Transmission successfully installed! Probably took about 5 hours of actual work; so not too bad. But good lord would a hoist have made things a billion times easier. Got a new axle installed as well After getting it back together, I ran it back and forth in the yard, let it settle, topped...

Something electrical and strange happened to Connie on the way to work today.

Got a spare alternator installed over the weekend; 13.6 when running, pretty much regardless of RPM or what's on. And no bad smell. The replacement was still shiny and even had a Carquest sticker that still looked brand new. It came out of my silver parts car which has ended up having an...

No sulfur smell yet, and the burnt electrical smell hasn't come back, either. Checked again when I got home last night; with everything on (wipers on high, stereo cranked, lights on, 4-ways on, and my girlfriend opening and closing the windows/sunroof and moving the power seat back and forth)...

14.5 is a bit on the high side, but within spec. I just redid the battery connections last week, they are definitely ok. The power wire is tight on the alt, and everything is plugged in tightly. But there is no doubting that that burnt electrical smell came from the alternator. I put my nose...

    Suddenly Running HOT

I actually found the leak a day after topping up the coolant, but forgot to update here. Yeah; I was relieved, too. Appreciate all the help, as always:waytogo:

Mine's clear, and all the brake fluid I've ever seen is either clear or yellowish when new, and brown to black when in there too long. Never seen red brake fluid before, but I don't use Honda brake fluid because the cheap stuff is $6 a quart and works fine. Who knows, I suppose it COULD be...

Just checked it; 12.7v with car off, 14.5v with engine running, doesn't change much no matter what I turn on or off, or what RPM I'm at....seems like it is working properly at the moment, but I definitely don't trust it now.

Yeah I know, I have actually seen one explode in a diesel Jetta from overcharging back in the 90s. The battery is already a few years old, so as long as it doesn't explode things should be fine. Dammit now you got me worried....I'm going to look for one of our electricians to borrow a meter...

I never read his posts over there. If that's the case and the fluid is red, then yeah it's definitely a axle seal leak and not a CV issue. Those seals are like 6 bucks, if they are the little round rubber ones like most cars use. Just remove axle, pick old seal out, push new one in and...

Something electrical and strange happened to Connie on the way to work today.

Multimeter is at home, so it'll have to wait till this afternoon. With the electrical smell definitely coming from the alternator, there's not much doubt in my mind that it's my issue. I'll test it before and after swapping and see if anything changes. But like I said, I have a pretty strong...
