I assumed when the dealership couldn't figure it out they would have tested for spark and fuel.

If you haven't had the fuel pressure tested, check it or get it checked.

its a distributor car. so dunno why people are bringing up coil packs.

sounds like a text book ignition module failure.

can you get a brand new distributor or a used one, complete with cap and rotor with all the sensors ?

Well it certainly seems like you got another faulty module. I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to look more at my 98 V6 parts car to see how exactly the ignition system is set up. I have 3 days off starting tomorrow; maybe I can simulate the symptoms on that car by messing around with the ignition wiring. But I'd be making the dealer put another ignition in the car if I were you. Maybe try a different dealership.
