I dont know if any of you keep up with the aviation stuff, but the first 787 rolled off the assembly line the other day, some pics at the link!

Its the first commercial aircraft with a carbon fiber fuselage, and amazingly enough is the second best selling widebody commercial airliner of all time (and the first plane hasnt even been delivered yet)!

Hehe, when I read 787, the Mazda race car sprung to mind first.

Nice looking plane, but it doesn't quite look as nice as the concept photos I remember seeing.

It blows the Airbus A380 out of the water because it is much more practical for the average airline. The 787 is intended to be used on longer flights, but not necessarily transcontinental like the A380. There has been 10 times more orders for Boeing's than Airbuses, although size wise A380 blows the 787 out of the water because its a full double decker. Primarily shipping company's have been buying the A380's, and a few company's have bought 1 or 2 of those, but they are really designed to fly across oceans, so its impractical to invest in a dozen of them, especially with so many people scared to fly...

how does it compare size-wise to a 747? sorry don't know anything about this lol

The 787 is intended as a direct replacement of 767-sized airplanes, the 747-400 has a typical three class layout of 416 seats and 7200 nautical mile range, while the new 747-8 has a typical three class layout of 467 and a 8000 nautical mile range.
The 787-3 is designed for short-haul (aka US Domestic, Intra-Asia, etc) flights and has 3 class layout of 290-330 seats and a 3000 nautical mile range, The 787-8 is the midrange airliner with 210-250 passengers and up to 8200 nautical mile range, the 787-9 is 250-290 passengers with 8500 nautical mile range.

The 787 is designed for point to point flights, aka flights from a non-hub to a non-hub, or hub-non hub airport. An example of this would be Northwest has a Boston-london flight, with neither of them being a hub of Northwest. The A380 is designed for high capacity trunk routes, like New York to London, where the combined American Airlines and British Airlines schedules have flights leaving almost every 30 mins of the day. Some of the main orders of the A380 have been QANTAS, Lufthansa, Emirates, Korean, etc.

be like it is
ive been on tons of planes, from the 727 to the 777...if the 777 is big, the a380 must be HUGE in real life. ive been on a couple airbuses, i think some combination of A, a 7, a 2, and a 0 come to mind, but not sure which order LOL...it was a transatlantic flight with lufthansa though if that narrows it down.
