New guy

Hey all I just picked up a 99 LX sedan 5 speed. Not new to cars or Hondas, joined my first forum in 2001 for my first Honda, an 89 Accord, 3geez.com under this username.

Since then, I've had a ton of cars, including RHD Prelude I built, S2K's, WRX, ect. And tons of Civic's. Until this Accord which I just picked up for duty, my last Honda was recently a bagged 2012 CR-Z which got totaled and recently replaced with a new Mustang. I've got pics of whatever on FB if you want I should post any.

That said, I've loved the 6G Accord since it came out (and it's "twin" the 97-02 Camry- which I've also had) but just never lined up in getting one for whatever reason. But I have the Mustang which was seeing daily usage since bought in May and have an Evo X with a 6266 which is down (big surprise) and when my work office moved a few weeks ago, I HAD to have an actual daily, didn't buy the Stang to put bunch of miles.

I was considering a MK4 Jetta VR6, E46 325 or 330, 5G or 5.5G Maxima, and 6G Accord. Literally all of the other choices would have been much more fun, but also have much more upkeep, and I've dealt with the same Honda based shop for over 10 years since my first swap, even if this Accord blew, I'd have an H22 in it almost overnight. And if this Accord gets an H22 it would be on par with all my other choice except the Maxima.

That said, I found my Accord on craigslist, and buyer wouldnt budge. As luck would have it, I drive past a gas station and what has to be the same car sitting at the gas station with a balljoint broken. I figured it was the same because the painted stock wheels. I called them back up asking was it the same car, sure was, and made an offer since the balljoint and axle were now broken. Made a deal towed it to my guy, and fixed, and additionally I'm doing an 01-02 coupe front because the bumper and hood are trash.

Car has some mileage 289K, but runs as quiet as a kitten. I'll go through as things need replaced, and like I said, if the engine gives out, an H22 won't be an issue. With all these things I'm in less than a K. Over time, I'll probably end up doing a pocket change build. Little here's and there's. Like lowering and wheels, DIY's black housing, ect. Nothing major, Stang is too stock, and Evo needs put back together. I am doing an 01-02 coupe front swap, as my bumper and hood are trashed. I got the bumper on, will get the hood soon.

I'll post pics once allowed.

Re: New guy

Welcome to the site, my friend has a 330 CI and I've driven it a few times and I will always love my Accord my than his car haha (most problems on my car can be fixed in the garage and the parts aren't as expensive, his is always in the shop). Awesome that you've already started working on a coupe front end conversion as well. The coupe just looks better for the most part but that's just me. With the black housed headlights you can get them for like $90 on amazon if you have the extra money and don't feel like DIY-ing it (that's what I did and I haven't had any problems with them). But if DIY is more your thing and you have the time then go for it, looks good either way

Re: New guy

Welcome. There's a few of us here with 99 sedans with a 2.3L and 5 speed owners here. I'm one, and I've been slowly working on getting it nice and reliable. Mines DEP (Dark Emerald Pearl), and I really love the color. It's also got 233K on it. Just got a Magnaflow cat and cat back exhaust put on it last month, and winter tires at the end of August. Next on my list is front hub bearings, upper control arms and lower ball joints, along with rotors and pads. That'll take care of most of the front end.
These cars like a few bucks thrown at them every now and then, and the PO of mine just drove it without putting any money into it (why it needs some stuff). But for $350, I kind of expected it would need something.

Thanks

I've done the DIY black housing on every EK I've had, and even done my fiance's Sebring. This'll be nothing. And I got the hood today, so conversion complete. I'm missing side vent covers, which I am not worry about, and the correct "H" badge since its a new aftermarket bumper.

As far as sedan, except the lazy, ugly 7th gen, I pretty much like sedan over the coupe. But for the 6th gen the coupe fronts are both better than sedan, and 01-02 sedan looks super meh. I might want some 01-02 tails though.

Mine is kinda that same situation, does feel a bit sloppy and I'm sure it needs wheel bearings after my real first trip today, which was a 20 mile highway drive without a hood, to get a hood from the junkyard LOL. But yeah they'll do what we ask for peanuts.

Re: New guy

Accord right after getting fixed:

You cant tell but the stock hood and front bumper are rough.

Can see the original bumpers condition here. Core support is also not great on the car

Primed it yesterday, along with the driver mirror which was black for some reason. I will paint it as soon as weather permits and day off line up.

The other things in the driveway
