Update 1/16/2014

So on the initial ticket, the modified suspension citation was marked as a correctable violation. A couple weeks ago, I received this lame notice in the mail.

Now he changed the modified suspension violation to a "non-correctable" one. It states that their error does not affect the validity of the citations. But I had already had both violations "corrected" by CHP last October. I'm just a little confused now as to what to do to fight it.

To top it off, if it was left as a correctable violation, it would've just been a $25 fee just like the window tint violation for a total of $50. And today the asshat finally filed the citation to the court and look at the fee amount... RIDICULOUS!

Citation says 24002(A)VC unsafe vehicle (modified suspension)

Two nights ago, I was heading home on a main street (but usually dead around midnight) after eating with some friends. I didn't break any rules, just minding my own business and cruising back home. I have a clean record, never had any other tickets other than a window tint fix-it 3 years back.

I was the only car stopped at a red light and the cop car was alone going the opposite direction. Light turns green, I go and he's just stopped there waiting for me to pass so he could U-turn and pull me over. I'm thinking I was just going to get harassed about my tint. The first thing he asks is, "Why is your car so low, is this VIP style?" I'm thinking to myself "Dude, it's not even that low considering there's so many slammed cars around this area with 1 finger ground clearance if not less." My fender-to-ground is 23.5". Another cruiser pulls up too. They had me get out my car, patted me down and had me sit on the curb like I was a criminal.

The other cop just started telling me how it is unsafe and tells me that I can't go through speedbumps and dips. I'm thinking this guy can't be serious. He then says "All these VIP guys are ****ing stupid. You guys crawl through dips and speedbumps at 5mph, blah blah blah and the people behind can ram into you." I'm thinking to myself again "Umm, isn't that the whole purpose of a dip or speedbump... to you know... slow down? And people shouldn't be following so close in the first place." Then the guy who initially pulled me over starts explaining to me how he is an accident recontruction specialist and he bounces the rear of my car saying I have no suspension travel. And if he sees me driving around that night again, he would impound my car.

So in short, received a stupid ticket. I don't mind the window tint citation at all but the "vehicle too low/modified suspension" citation just sucks ass. I understand they're doing their job but they seem to be a bit misinformed and the way they treated me was a bit overboard, having me sit on the sidewalk for a good 20-30 minutes. But keep in mind, the fucker never measured my car so I wonder if I have a good chance of getting this dismissed?

Anyone in Socal ever gotten stopped for this dumb reason?

That's so stupid. I don't understand why people can't just deal with the fact that people lower their cars and it dosent effect them.. It's not their car!

Sucks with the ticket man, hopefully you don't see that cop anymore. I'd go up to the station and talk with them about what happened. The police is here to make everything safe not harass people.

random and off topic but dude this is like down the street of my house, mpk cops are just haters in general whether it be cause of traffic violations or anything in general, you could try the lip things or just raise it for the inspection but not sure how deep itll be

I've dealt with officers from SG, Rosemead, and Pasadena and most of them were rather cool, cracked a couple jokes, and let me off after checking my record. MPK cops, in general, are just pricks!

FTFY, and yeah I'll just raise it if anything. Just sucks because I just had my alignment done 2 weeks ago.

I can't seem to find the fine for the modified suspension citation though, but I know for window tint it's around $30, so not too bad.

must be a texas thing :lawl:

i've heard of this happening in cali/socal, so it's no surprise to me that you got a ticket for it if your car is lowered. that's pretty shitty, honestly. but i would think if he didn't measure your cars height (i've heard it has something to do with the center of the headlight's height off the ground), then i would think the ticket should be thrown out since he technically has no proof. if you look on the headlights, there is a little mark dead center on the part of the lens in front of where the low and high beams are, i believe that's the mark these laws go by. i know nj has a headlight height rule, for lowered and raised vehicles, but cops here don't tend to give a crap about that stuff haha.
