Story:

Was driving home late at night after work with no transmission jerking or problems. Only 1 slip in the past month when it was cold. I have had the car for 4 months.

Going down a hill and BAM my speedo sais im going 80 and rpms are at around 5k. I realize my gas pedal isnt doing anything and i just paid 102$ for a tow truck to drive me home...

I now believe I am haunted as today is ( was ) Friday the 13th.

NO GEAR WORKS. D4, D3, 2, 1, my car sits still and the speedo and rpms go crazy. Same with reverse. Attempting to put it in park and it instantly goes
RHRGHRGRHGRHGRHRGRRR a really bad screeching sound.

There was a trail of transmission fluid 100 feet from when it went to where i "parked" then continued to spew transmission fluid to form a big puddle.

Anyway, here are my questions:

1) What happened? It seemed fine then just destroyed....
2) What can I expect in cost to fix this?
3) Is it worth to fix it or invest in a new car..

Greatly appreciate responses ahead of time. This is a huge downer for being my first car and working **** wage I dont know how i can afford this get to work or school..

Check to see any cracked casing or broken drain bolt.

It can cost between $1200-$1800 for a complete rebuild depending on warranty.

It's never worth fixing an automatic transmission knowing it'll go bad again (usually after the warranty). But if you have no other choice I'd fix it.
