It's a simple move, "zip" up the website directory, export the MySQL Database, copy them over to the new server, and unzip and import the files, turn it on, and you wouldn't even know. Nothing is going to change.

Old:
Intel P4 HT 2.0GHz
2GB RAM (maxed on the crappy server board)
2x37GB WD SATAII 15,000RPM in LVM (stripe config) (it's screwed, I think a drive is dying which is why it gets so freaking slow at certain times during the day)

New:
2x AMD Opteron 2.00GHz (4 core total)
8GB RAM (I found one more 2GB stick, need to find the other, will bring it to 12GB)
2x37GB WD SATAII 15,000RPM in hardware RAID1 (mirror).

Old OS: CentOS 5.4 64bit
New OS: CentOS 5.5 64bit

Both are in identical 1U servers. I have 1x Quad Core Opteron (2.2ghz) and I need to find the other one, which is probably with the missing RAM chip...

Then I could have it at 12GB of RAM and 8 cores.

im a tech person... what are you running n the server? and the specs... doubt anyone else would care

Don't worry, everybody is a tech person ;-) Just depends on what level you take it to.

I love messing with this stuff, and I'm deep into the Linux world, it's all my job rotates around. Taking me a while to finish it up because after working all day, I don't exactly want to work on it haha... it won't be much longer.

sounds like a nice beefy server... sounds similar to one of the ones i have in the server room at my job.

intresting... not using a server OS... but then again its a linux OS so it can be just bout anything. try running a diagnostic on the hard drive if you think its dying... but ive also had HD bays in a server go bad as well... idk how old the old server is.

Should be a noticeable upgrade in lack-of-wait time. That's a big core boost.

Only problem I can find with CentOS is that according to their bugs page:
"password verification only checks 8 characters
[CentOS-5] pam - 2011-03-23 03:48"
but it seems that was only in 5.5.2, anything older doesn't have the problem.

Please make that password, or its first 8 characters, impossibly random lol, I <3 6GA

Interesting... I'll patch it. But regardless, it only has the important ports opened to the internet, which is tcp/80 :)

Plus all of my passwords are completely random, 13-16 characters, A-Z, a-z, 1-0, and special characters. Have fun ;-)

I hope to get this completed soon.
