Re: Building a House/General Home Buying

CB, why 240? I know I want a couple of 120 outlets but why 240? And I dnt think we're gonna worry too much about Ethernet or even fiber optic. Between the dish, grounded cable, and our cell phones we have enough.

My biggest issue, I think, is going to be the garage. It was originally going to be 22x22 with one door and now it's set to be 20x22 one door. The garage will face an alley so we won't have a driveway so pulling in and out of the garage may get tricky.

Re: Building a House/General Home Buying

Thought I'd give this a little update...

We signed papers back in April and had a close date of July 10. Due to banks, loan companies, etc we won't be building, sadly. We were really looking forward to that house. It wasn't our dream home but we had definitely put some thought into what we wanted and how we wanted it.

Now we're looking to buy pre-existing. We put an offer in on a newer (2012) 3bed/2bath 1-car attached garage. It'll come with all kitchen appliances, and a storm shelter. It's about 1180sq ft so it's a little smaller. Plus the drive way and garage are single car. If this comes through, one of the first things on my list is adding more driveway and another garage.

We're really hoping this or our 2nd choice come through. Otherwise we'll be stuck to renting. It's not so bad but we'd really like to finally own a home.

Re: Building a House/General Home Buying

Sorry to hear your initial plan didn't go through. You never know, perhaps down the road you'll find it was a blessing in disguise. Anyway, have you weighed the cost of adding driveway space/2-car garage against the cost of buying a house that already has those? Actually, dumb question haha...I know how methodical you are. Hope things work out.

It's funny, sometimes I think about how simple and cheap renting was. I love owning a home, but it is a lot of work and money. But then I think of all the crap you have to put up with renting, and for the privacy and space you get with a house, it's worth it.

Re: Building a House/General Home Buying

Definitely. Growing up we always rented. It has its ups and downs. I like not being responsible for the upkeep but then you're stuck waiting on a repair man. Or if certain things don't work or the house is "not nice" you're either stuck with it or you have to cover the costs yourself and hope your landlord forgives it. Anyway, the house we're in now is absolutely horrible. We cant wait to move.

The seller accepted our offer and it passed inspection and now we're just waiting on the appraisal and few other ends and we're shooting for an August 21 close date.

Here's a couple of pictures of the new joint....

Look at that sweet ***!

Re: Building a House/General Home Buying

Nice, Mikey, passing the home inspection is big hurdle, so that's a relief to get past that.

Looks like a pretty new home, which is good, won't hopefully have to worry about major repairs for a good while.

Re: Building a House/General Home Buying

Just bought and moved into my new house a few weeks ago. Having a new stove, washer, and dryer delivered today. That was a nice investment but other than not having a functional fireplace in the living room, it's everything I want and I'm still in the area I know and around my friends/family.

All the tanks are pretty much the same. It's the controller that makes a difference. You could buy a used one on CL and install it yourself, or have a Plummer install it if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.

Made a mistake buying it through a company before and paid $5000 for the system and install. After realizing that I could buy it for $750 and install it myself.
