Hello Accord Community:gathering:,

As usual when I get in my Honda Accord I have to adjust myself to get comfortable in the seat. One day when doing this, I heard a 'pop' and then the seat hasn't been right since (2 weeks ago). It rocks back and forth while driving.

So, I finally got tired of it and began the research process to resolve this problem.

Here's what I found,

A YouTube video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cApVwA7ilG0 demonstrating exactly what my seat was doing and the correct direction that it was rocking.

I also used https://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ intensively to figure out 'lingo' of the subframe of the seat using the diagrams associated with the front seat.

I also found a couple online PDF's which some were useful and some were not:

(I attached them all, hopefully they attached correctly).

Next,

I took out my drivers seat to see if the 'rod' that was mentioned in the video I listed above was actually the culprit. I found it was NOT. Mine was completely fine, so I left it alone.

In these pictures you can see the silver bracket is actually broken at the rivets almost completely.

So,

I removed the rivet by following the guidelines of this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr24Nvs7fd0

Basically hammer a point in the middle of the rivet, then drill down to the center using that point, and then I used a flat head and a hammer to break the cap of the rivet, then used a philips to push the rivet through. Took me about 20 minutes.

I called honda before taking me seat out and they basically told me, I would have to replace the entire assembly (subframe) of the seat. They don't sell any of the subframe in separate pieces nor do they weld. I sent them a picture of the bracket, and the supervisor even told me to go find a used seat. I asked him, don't you have 'master mechanics?' His response, "sorry." I told him, I'll just go do what a manufacturer of a part is supposed to be able to do to their own part and fix it, NOT replace the whole friggin set up. I immediately hung up the phone:mad3:. Expecting that answer from them, I went to my next option, a welding shop.

I now am about to go out to a welding shop and have them weld it back together.

Lastly, I will go to home depot to find a bolt and nut combination to fit where the old rivets were, and hopefully I won't have what should be on my porch, in my car anymore (...rocking chair :hihi:).

I hope this helps someone. :buttkick:
