i always put my uv filter on no matter what the conditions are. Some people don't use filter at all.

Polarizing pictures will make your shots dark so you'll have to compensate for that, but it is kind of fun... it'll let you take some reflections out and see into the water better. I hardly ever see a need to use mine though.

i think polarized filters increase detail when there's lots of light. most of the one's i've look at were kinda pricey

Nice, that's more than I can say lol. I'm just trying to get into some better pictures as well. I like em, specially the gauges.
