So my amp finally gave out after 5 years. It was a pretty old one sony xplod 800w. Anyways theres so many amps out there to buy was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a solid amp for my 12" jl audio subwoofer. My budget would be anywhere around 150-250$

Good choice on that amp. I've been looking for months and months and I keep coming back to that amp.

Sonic electronix is the best place to buy want you want. Just look up your sub and find a amp suitable for it. To match its Rms and also max its power.

Dont forget OFC amp wiring is good gives you better sound and more power.

a lot of it will depend on the model of the sub too, especially with JL, you don't want to get an amp that is only 2 ohm stable with a sub that is ran at 1.3 ohms or whatever some JL's can get down to. Pioneer GM-D8601 is a pretty legit amp, good power and small size, comes with a remote too for those times you don't want so much bass. Last time I checked amazon had them new for like $175
