How to remove Intake Manifold

Ok I searched youtube, google, here. Most all if it is just talk about swaps.

But there is no "How To" remove the intake manifold off the F23A motor without pulling the motor. I just want to clean the inside of the manifold. Mine is god awful filthy and gunked up with all kinds of black crap. The EGR port wasn't pretty either.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks on removing the manifold? I don't have a lift. Any tricks on getting to the bottom side mounting bolts?

I often wondered this I pulled the upper half off mine to clean it. It doesn't look like fun trying to remove the lower half, I'm sure it's do able but would be a pita

It's very time consuming. I don't have pictures but I can give you the basics from my memory.

To Start -

Remove intake & label all plugs and fuel fittings - (EGR, TPS, MAP, fuel regulator, IAC, brake booster hose, AIT, throttle cable, cruise cable, injectors etc). Move the harness and cables out of the way.


You can try removing it in one whole piece but it's a fight to get it out from under the firewall overhang. I suggest removing the EGR and then the top half of the manifold first (with the throttle body still attached).

There's a metal brace under the manifold that bolts to it and the block to support it, I suggest removing it first and any of the lower manifold nuts that you can reach (in the middle and backside) while under there. This will be tedious on some of them.

From here it's just a matter of going one by one on all the nuts that hold the manifold to the head. Some will come out completely with the bolt, don't freak out, it's normal and actually easier to remove the manifold if this happens. When I did mine I put these in place of the factory bolts and used a Bisimoto or Hondata thermal gasket -
