i am helping my friend out.....

From a stop, a car is moving 3 meters per second...

1.) Find how long it takes the car to reach a velocity of 30 meters per second??

2.) Find the distance that it takes to reach ^^^^

this is wat i did...

1.) v=u+at

v = final velocity
u = initial velocity
a = acceleration
t = time

30= 0 + 3t

t=10 is the the right answer??

2.) d=1/2 at^2

d = total distance
a = acceleration
t = time

d= 1/2 (3)(10)^2 ????????

That doesn't sound right at all. You said the car had a velocity of 3 m/s, it doesn't say anywhere that the car is ACCELERATING. Going 3 m/s is constant velocity, unless the problem meant that the car's velocity was increasing by 3 meters each second (3 m/s, next second, 6 m/s, etc). Can you copy the problem exactly? Seems simple enough since your just using Uniform Accelerated Motion (UAM) equations.

actually you're right. the phrase at a speed of 3 meters per second is only velocity, and not acceleration. however, given that this is the internet (i would assume that he abbreviated the question) and that this isn't meant to be a tricky problem, "from a stop to 3 meters per second" i would assume it's acceleration.

but you're right though. maybe the full problem would help.

I loved physics..... it was an awesome class for me to catch up on my sleep... teacher didn't really give a $hit either since I was somehow able to pass the tests... :lawl: lucky guesses I suppose :D

If a motorcycle starts from rest and accelerates at 3 meters per second per second find the time it takes the motorcycle to rach velocity of 30meters
B. Find the distance when it reached velocity of 30 meters.

it would take like 10 seconds to reach a velocity of 30m/s at 3m/s/s

to reach 30 meters...it would take exactly 4 seconds

0sec - 0m - speed 0ms
1sec - 3m - speed 3ms
2sec - 9m - speed 6ms
3sec - 18m - speed 9ms
4sec - 30m - speed 12ms
