So my CEL came on today and I decided to go over to Autozone and ask them to lend me a OBD2 code scanner. The guy told me that they stop lending people borrow their OBD2 code scanner for more then a year and half. I was like WTF in my head. The clerk handed me a flyer about some guy who will do a FREE code check from his private shop. Now Im thinking this is some kind of gimmeck to get people to go there and have them read the code and charge some kind of butt load of service charge once the check is complete. I seen OBD2 code scanner being sold at Walmart for $90+. I dont want to buy one just for checking a code. I havent try out Kragen, so hopefully they will lend me one to check out my CEL. BTW, this is the first time that my CEL came on since I bought it back in 05.

Dont do that, autozone is supposed to do it for you. Meaning they goes outside and plug it into your car. Its in their advertisements. Just tell them you need them to pull the code for you.

for legal reasons Autozone does not allow free OBD2 scans.... im pretty sure this goes nationwide, it was effective sometime late last year of 08

believe me, ive tried several times at several different autozone stores, they all said the same bull... maybe you might be lucky enough to find a store that will let it slide, or have friends there... but as far as i know they stopped lending out the OBD2 scanners

i had to try a few shops, but eventually i found a honda specialist shop that was nice enough to give me free readings... the funniest shop HANDS DOWN would have to be Firestone/Bridgestone Shops... them mo'f*ckers charge $100 to scan your CEL... $100!!! i laughed in the guys face as i was walking out when he told me that

Today I went to get my alignment done at Goodyear and I ask if they could pull the code out and the rep said that would be $105!! Hell no, just for a code scan is damn right out of this world. So I went to check out that flyer I got and the dude was happy to give me a free scan, no charge. I got the code and it was a P1164 Primary HO2S (No. 1) Circuit Range/Performance. How do I fix that? Time for a google search then! Or if you guys know please provide your input. Thanks.

Did another search and found out its also called "Air/Fuel Ratio (AF) Sensor (Sensor 1) Circuit Range/Performance". Ok sounds easy to fix.

ill try and run it past my buddy who can put it through his snap-on solus' troubleshooting guide. usually it gives a list of things from most common (and sometimes cheapest) to least common and most involved.

cant make any promises, though, since his scanner is at work and he might forget to bring it home.

whoops, you edited your post before i posted this one. let me know if you still need help...

Search around and this is the part that I will need to fix. Cost is pretty high.
