5th gen prelude 5MT yay or nay

I been wanting to get a more fun to drive car for a while now, I been all over the map from looking and test driving mustang gt's, civic Si, etc, but I always keep coming back to the prelude for some reason. More specifically the 5th gen prelude with the 5MT. I heard these cars are pretty reliable, but they have issues like oil burning, and clutch problems. Also people say its hard to find oem parts for preludes ? If I do buy a lude, my budget is about 8K, will it be an expensive car to maintain ? I am going to keep it stock, probably do a drop and tint, that's it. My main concern about manual cars is the clutch, I really dont want to buy one and find out the clutch is on its way out. Any advice appreciated and rep will be given. I have always been a honda fan, and I would like to stay in the honda family if possible

btw I found some on ebay like this, what do you think ? I dont know where a good place to start is. No one really around my town has any ludes that are not ragged out

Ludes are great cars, even if you do buy one and the clutch goes out 6 months down the road, new ones are pretty inexpensive and it's something you could do in your driveway with a couple friends. I personally like the cars a lot, it's just a little small for me. If you were to get one, just maintain it like you would your Accord, and I'm sure it will give you little or no problems other than things that wear out due to normal wear and tear.

i guess the best way to find prices is compare them with kellybluebook? i always wanted a prelude too but my parents didn't want to get it for me as a first car, then i found my baby <3. i got 2 friends with preludes, and they said there's something called a "prelude curse" i don't know if it was just for them, but they had a lot of problem with theirs. Other then that, i heard the handling is really good

would high mileage cars be a problem ? Almost all the ludes with the exception of some cars have at least 100K+ miles on them.

Check out the below forums. You could ask them the same questions possibly? Or just search the sites...

http://www.preludezone.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

http://www.preludepower.com/forums/f...play.php?f=195

http://www.preludeonline.com/f60/5th...on-faq-230296/

In my opinion, you will still get Honda reliability and all the goodness that comes with it in a 'Lude. I'd say go for it. (Heck, you find a lot of guys on this forum taking H22 engines from Preludes and putting them in their Accords... All depends on which model you get too... I think there are fast ones and "not so fast" ones (which would still be as fast as our Accords...

I could be wrong on some of that... But check out those websites and/or maybe some other folks will chime in on here.

By the way, the Mustang will never ever compare with Honda reliability (IMO)

I know you said unmodded but this one looks pretty nice and its a 1 owner. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...3A1|240%3A1318

I have a friend with 2 preludes, one has 180 something and the other 130 something. Both have been reliable to him.
