Now granted I'm new to this car and in fact just picked it up last night, but what about this idea?
Use the same idea of what you have now, but have a bigger snorkle to draw in more air and in the airbox have a small cone filter with the venturi ring attached.
In my experiance with 300ZX's ripping out the stock airbox and putting in a Jim Wolf Technology/Stillen air filter with that ring would net you 5 rwhp on n/a's and even more on tt's. Now granted I also do not know if they make a filter small enough to fit in the airbox or not or a venturi ring for that filter, but this idea might yield some decent gains.
Just a theory.
Oooooor i might be talking unrealistically out of my butt.

Makes sense, sounds like alot of custom fabrication. I say do it...on a spare airbox though. just in case.

If I get around to it I'll give it a shot. Right now though I need this to be reliable as it's my DD and I blew up my last DD.

you could do the vw vr6 trick of smoothing the inside of the intake. since most vr6 intake kits lose 2-3 horsepower in the bottom-and mid-range, people just grind down the little ridges and high spots inside the box. unimpeded and smooth airflow is where its at

also I think if you remove the rubber connector on top of the resonator and use those ring clamps to connect the snorkel it'll work better.

i did this mod today. initial impressions:
1. its sooo quiet compared to my sri.
2. it *feels* like theres more torque.
3. taking another 30min in addition to the 30 min it takes to do this would do more. that includes making a bigger inlet hole, smoothing out the ridges inside the box, and possibly mating a bigger snorkel to the bigger inlet hole.

i have it lined up to the stock airbox with duct tape holding it on. i also cut off the resonation chamber on the snorkel.

i was bored, what can i say?
