I went to home depot awhile ago and I bought these bulbs in the outdoor lighting section that are the 12 v wedge bulbs and 18 watts. I put them in the doors and the trunk and it is so much better its great. heres the bulb I got, they were cheap too. In the trunk i just unhinged that little plastic cage thing that the bulb goes in and clipped it off.

i just tried it to see and it can squeeze in but it might pop off the socket when you try to get it out. You could lightly file the socket so it fit in. It needs like a mm more to fit. These bulbs are yellow looking though like stock just a lot brighter. Polarg m6 is the same as this but white.

I'll have to take some pics. At night when you open the door it lights up the side of the house.
