Buzzing noise in the cabin?

So I noticed that sometimes when I'm gonna start the car it doesn't crank and a buzzing sound starts from under the dash. I turn the key back and do it again and it will start up fine, it just annoys me when it does this. Like I said it only does this every now and then what can it be? My car is a 98 4dr 5spd.

Sounds like a loose wire/ground.

What area of the dash is it coming from?

could be your battery is getting old or a power wire or ground is going bad. Z4 did the same thing. Turned out battery was weak so it the starter would turn on but toooooo little power to crank. Ever heard a dying electric car? Just a low buzz and no movement

It's like using a key with out the chip to try and start it(nothing will happen) and only the buzzing sound it will make. It sound like it's right underneath the steering wheel
