I was thinking it would be pretty cool if we had like a Facebook-like Status Updates page/column on this forum, like the ones you'd see on s2ki.com.

Status Updates page
http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/statuses/all/

With an additional "Recent Status Updates" column (found on the right side of the page)
http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/index.php?

Just something I thought I'd suggest to make this forum even more addicting than it already is lol.

What do you guys think?

Personally I don't care or want to know what someone is doing every 10 minutes, but as long as it's not actually linked to Facebook, I don't mind. Just be prepared to read a lot of dumb things, lol.

Interesting idea though. :)

Thanks :)

I'm thinking it might also keep teh no0bs from creating useless/repetitive threads everyday and instead, they can just post whatever they want to ask in their statuses.

One thing I like about this site over V6P and others is it loads a lot faster. Idk how that column would effect the speed of the forum, but some people still have crappy computers that struggle to even load the signatures of some people.

Just a thought, I'm like Chris though I don't really care too much either way.

Good idea, but it would have its ups and downs. I wouldn't want it sacrificing forum speed like Tyler said. I'm not totally against it, but I have my own opinion. Do we really need another social media 'network feed' that resembles or has the same addictive effects as facebook, coming to our favorite place that has been paradoxically free from social networking, yet is still completely directly connected with everyone? I really don't want to know what everyone is doing as soon as I get on the site. That's what the shoutbox thread is for, and even then I don't usually like going into it because it gives me absolutely nothing. In fact it's often inhabited by individuals who are 'too cool', and make others (such as new users) who come to post in it - feel unwelcome. Guaranteed that a status feed is going to turn into just that as well. Essentially, I have no need to delve into people's personal business and take time away from things that matter most like what this forum is originally made and intended for. Cheers.

/opinion.

riiiiiiiiiiight...and thats why there arent 135k posts with 2.25+ million views in that thread, with only people who joined in 2005 posting there. wait...

as lord of the shouthread, i will say that noobs dont "succeed" in the shouthread is because they come in, post a cool story, then never return...or use it like twitter but never read the replies. its not that we're "too cool," its that shouthread noobs come and go. anyone is welcome to stay as long as they're not stupid, annoying, or douchey--to wit, no one has ever been officially been "kicked out" because none of us have that power. look at the most recent pages and the join dates of people posting. if it was some elite club, it would be all 05-06 members.

"noobs in the shouthread" and "gtfo noob" go back to the original shoutbox (which crashed the site numerous times, and is why theres a thread :lawl:) and is part of the acceptance process. again, its not a facebook status thread nor a twitter thread. hang out, get to know people, post some cool shit. no one cares if you have 15 posts on the site, come in and make a post, then never come back.

^ Point taken Ryan :)

Still, that aside, would a status update feature be worth it you think? What are your thoughts on the status update thing?

personally, i find it quite pointless...both in real life and on here with internet acquaintances. chances are, if we're good enough friends to care about what the other person is doing, we'd already know. y'know? :lawl:

i even went so far as to use a script to block all facebook items from webpages in my browser. did you (as in, "you all") know that facebook tracks you if the site has a "like" thumb or a "share with facebook" link--even when you're not logged in to facebook?

isnt there a 6ga facebook group/page? people can privacy rape each other on there :lawl:
