i just converted my CAI to SRI. no real reason, just wanted to see the difference.

before the noise would peak at about 4k rpm's and level off. also it felt like my torque dropped off noticeably after around 4.5k

now the noise continues growing until redline. the acceleration seems much more continuous throughout the rpm range.

although the SRI is louder at redline, the CAI was a lot louder at 4k (which i drive at more often).

at moderate throttle the SRI setup is much quieter overall (except the highest rpm's).

My opinion
If you put a filter that works like a connector in the middle of CAI .Would have torque in low RPM and high RPM

1)SRI's are much louder than CAI because the filter is in the engine bay instead of in the fender.

2) SRI's would be good for mid range while CAI's are good for up top

3) Torq for the 4 bangers top out at about 4,500-4,900 RPM's

Personally, I have a SRI during the winter and convert to a CAI during Spring, SUmmer & Fall.

just to compare sound here's a vid before with the whole cold air intake (CAI):

and here's after i converted to short ram (SRI):

recap:

i don't know if you can tell, but the CAI is very loud/deep and the sound peaks at
about 4-4.5k (which is also where it feels like torque peaks).

the SRI is very loud above 5.5k but quieter everywhere else. also, the torque
feels much flatter on the high end.

i greatly prefer the driving feel and sound of the SRI. if i'm going around town
it's totally un-noticeable (unlike the CAI which would get loud if i accelerated
much at all), but if i rev it out it pulls all the way to redline.

with the CAI it actually would feel like i let off the throttle above about 4.5k!
it was very strange. the SRI is smooth all the way through.

Also, remember VTEC normally engages between 4500-4900 RPM's for the F23.
If your intake is much louder up top, that's because the F23's are SOHC VTEC. Vtec is only on the intake side.

vtec engages much sooner than that.

look about halfway down this post:

http://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1918175

he says it should be 2300-3800 rpm's, which i'd agree with.

i did the vtec indicator (which you originally linked to):

http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35&page=3&pp=20

and it verifies that even during slight acceleration it will almost always kick in before 3k.
