what's creating more airflow?

Bass is multi directional, it doesn't matter if it is facing you or not, it won't sound louder at all. More airflow is created b/c bass works by displaced air, I'm assuming if its facing into your car, air is flowing around.

I drive with the back seats down with my L7 in the trunk all the time.:driving:

(but you knew all that already)

be like it is
thing about a box in a box is...you have half the force of the sub being "absorbed" into the box (except for vented boxes at turning frequency, etc) then the other half of the air is being used to pressurize the trunk.

while the frequencies are omni-directional, the trunk is a finite volume so it will affect the response of the driver, depending on where its placed inside the trunk.

simply "pointing" it into the cabin wont make it louder, naturally, unless you seal off the front of the box from the trunk.
