when you say chattering, is it kinda like a quick clicking sound? like the engine wont even try to crank? if it is then its your battery. this happened just recently do my brothers truck. you probably somehow caused a short in the battery. if your battery is rechargeable you can have a place recharge it or you have to replace the battery.

how do we check the alternator? dang i don't recall doing anything that would've shorted the alternator. i took off the positive cable and scape some corrosion off and plugged it back in afterwards.

I'm not sure the precise way to check it but if you start your car (or have it jumped) with a meter on the battery, it will tell you if it's being recharged or receiving any energy from the alternator. It's just a possible cause of your problem and in all honesty you should get it checked out by a mechanic. Sorry for your troubles, my friend.

This use to happen to me ALL THE TIME! I had a bad battery terminal connector, and horrible corrosion on the battery itself. If the terminal connector was even a little loose it would do EXACTLY what yours is doing. I would make sure the battery terminals and connectors are as clean as possible, and tighten them down as best you can. If that doesn't work, try someone else battery and see if you can get it to start like someone else previously stated.

All I did was replaced the ****ty factory connectors with some after market ones and I never had the problem again.

By chattering, do you mean the car is turning but it's not firing up? Like you're getting the fuel and everything but it just won't start up. When you put the key in and turn it twice, the one where all the dash lights light up, right before ignition, does your check engine light turn on? Or is it just the Maint req'd light and the rest, without the check engine light on?

Yup, i'm getting fuel and everything but it doesn't start up. It looks like the usually startup where all the light turns on then turns off a couple seconds later. I just noticed today that my battery light stays on after all the other lights turns off. And yes the check engine light does show up but goes away with the other lights.

yup chattering as in a quick clicking sound. sounds like one of those air wrench. When its on the IGN (3) it "chatters" or "clicks quickly" but the engine does not crank.

I just tested my connections today and the damn negative battery terminal is loose. Tighten down but i'm still able to move it freely. I used a hammer to knock it down and now it's a bit tighter but the battery light now appears to be on. My alarm sounds normal now so i'm going to try to replace or make my own negative cable or replace my battery or both.

There is your problem guaranteed. Mine was the neg connector too. If you can move it around it doesn't have a good connection.

yeah, the corrosion can cause a bad connection. try replacing that and see how it goes. im willing to bet the battery is bad too. its quite old.

hey guys. i fixed it today :). I went to a different autozone to test it and it failed again. this time it started to smell as well. so i bought a new battery at costco and some negative cables at autozone 2ga wires and now it starts up perfectly. thanks!

One question I have is if its okay if the cable i bought only came with only one wire to ground oppose to the 2 smaller stock wires with 2 grounding points?

The engine block grounding point is the most important, not the one on the radiator support.

Check tasauto for a replacement? Shouldnt be that expensive.
