I want to do an AT swap to Manual.. but I want the tiptronic shift -- If it is what I think it is, it's the kind where you shift but don't have to use a clutch pedal, right? -- how would I do it? I searched but I didn't really find anything :eh:

You would use the Prelude or TL(2nd Gen) shifter, but it would be way too much hassle because of the electronic aspect of such a swap.

The Accord Tranny is not setup for that, so it really woulnd't make it worth it.

I don't even think swapping the TL shifter/tranny in to the Accord would be enough to make it work.

"Man's" manual or nothing!

It's possible, you'd need to be a v6 (not sure if u are), and it would involve using the tl's transmission and ecu. Def a lot of work, an prob some custom wiring.

Idk much about v6's so i'm assuming the TLs were a J series also and the tranny would bolt up. if not, i guess u'd need their motor too.

Edit: from what i've read, a lot of people weren't happy with tiptronic trannys in the TLs, probably cuz they weren't as close to the 'manual feel' as they may have wanted.

Yeah i'm v6. i mean i know my tranny will go out sooner or later (i'm at 75k miles right now), but i just don't like regular manual haha i got spoiled driving my mom's infiniti. i would definitely take it to a shop instead of DIY, so the work aspect doesn't faze me, it's just the $$$ aspect heh

Which is why it's not worth it, unless you can score a GREAT deal on the parts you would need and get the labour done for free.

the TLs tiptronic isnt that good (as we discussed in the other thread :eh: )...really not worth the time and effort and money, especially since the transmission will an hero faster...

Hard to say, you would have to see how much the necessary parts would cost in your area, as well as a mechanic knowledgeable enough to do it.

I think the money could be put to much better use, and I wouldn't necessarily trust the TL tranny either using the tiptronic.

The 99-01 TL's had tranny issues as well, so it would mean the cost of the parts will be higher to get the 02-03 parts you would need.

it would probably cost more than a regular 6spd swap, so ask those guys how much they paid for an idea.

for me, i dont base the 'worth' of a mod on price vs. practicality. If you've got the will and the means to do it, go for it. right now im actually doing something similar, but on an i4. I'm swapping in the tl shifter and researching how to wire the tiptronic function to control the cruise control i lost when i installed my quick release steering wheel :hihi:

So i say, be a pioneer in the field and get it done, even if it means saving money for a year lol
