I went through the exact same scenario as you -- plus-sizing from 205/65 - 15"x6.5 on a V6 6thgen sedan (although mine's an '00). You'll see plenty of 6th gen sedans modded on lower-offset wheels, but they are mostly the 4 cylinder Accords. The V6 Accords were OEM'd with higher offset wheels...
Not an expert here, but just .02 based on my experience.
I'm on 17x7.5 +40 and mine stick out too much. If the rims you're talking about were on my '00 sedan - by my math - they'd be sticking out even more by about 4mm. (a +6mm delta for the wider rim; -2mm delta for the offset differential).
I have a feeling you are right. I would also hear a big sound when bottoming out in the rear. It sounds too solid of a sound to be the relatively flimsy fender. My car is at an alignment shop right now getting the front-end repaired; your post moved me to call the shop today and have them...
This is kind of ironic for nooby me here. A day or two ago, I complimented nyknick on his "sick ride" when in fact it was RedRyder's. There are two things I gotta say about the 6th gen:
1. It's the best looking Accord ever
2. It's the last one to use old-school for-real throttles...
