    Multiple leaks on '99 F23A4

I don't think an extra 1/2 quart is going to cause your seals to go bad. These are old cars and seals age. If you check my earlier post, the shaft seal in the distributor is not a difficult DIY job. But see how much a shop will charge and then decide if it's worth your time to DIY.

    Anyone using Android head units?

I've got the factory double din radio with 6-cd changer, and thinking about getting an Android double din head unit. I've been wanting to add a backup cam, and an Android head unit would be a slick way to have a screen for the cam instead of buying a dedicated camera screen that mounts to the...

FS: 1998-2002 Honda Accord timing belt kit (4-cylinder)

Timing belt kit and accessory belts (power steering, AC/alternator) with only 55k miles. For 98-02 4-cylinder Accords (6th gen Accords). I had an oil leak and I wanted to deal with it, and since I knew I'd have the timing cover and timing belt off, I went ahead and ordered a timing belt kit and...

Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

I placed an extra washer under the adjusting nut and that helped create enough clearance between the nut and timing cover to slip the rubber washer over the nut.

Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

Thanks, that's good to know. I might put another (metal) washer underneath the tensioning nut so that it sits taller relative to the lower cover, which should make it easier to get the rubber washer between the nut and lower cover.

Lower timing cover tensioning nut - rubber washer - stupid question

Putting things back together after a timing belt job and after installing the lower timing cover, I'm trying to slip the rubber washer over the tension adjusting nut. There isn't enough clearance between the cover and the nut to slip this washer onto the groove on the nut where the washer is...

What else to replace/service while I'm replacing timing belt?

Thanks. Plugs are relatively new, and I will check coolant hoses. I'm really hoping the seals I'm replacing will resolve the oil leak I have on that side of the engine. Hoping it's not the seals on the back side of the oil pump, which would require dropping the oil pan and part of the exhaust...

code P1491 - EGR Valve Insufficient Lift - safe to drive?

I reset the CEL and went on the trip. CEL didn't come back on during that trip. No pending codes either. I removed the EGR and the pintle was stuck closed (would not open when I applied battery voltage). Stuck closed doesn't create engine hesitation, but the combustion chamber does get hotter...

Seat belt buckle screws - what are these (not Torx)?

My local Honda dealer was willing to warranty it, so I had them take care of it.

code P1491 - EGR Valve Insufficient Lift - safe to drive?

2001 Accord I4. I got a CEL today and pulled the code. It's P1491 - EGR Valve Insufficient Lift. Car seems to idle and run fine. I've got a 500mi road trip tomorrow. Is it safe to drive the car or would I be doing damage to the car? At my destination, I have access to a garage and tools...

What else to replace/service while I'm replacing timing belt?

2001 Accord I4 MT I'll be replacing the following parts, and wondering if there's anything else I should be replacing or cleaning while I'm in these areas. Timing belt and front-of-engine seals: timing belt balance belt timing belt tensioner balance belt tensioner tensioner springs...

Seat belt buckle screws - what are these (not Torx)?

I've got a SRS code 9-3 (driver's seat belt buckle). It's probably the well known issue with the microswitch plunger. I've read online that on various other Hondas/Acuras, the buckle uses torx screws, but that's not the case with the buckle on my 6GA. Not sure what this is. Looks like it might...

    Multiple leaks on '99 F23A4

Yes, if you're hammering the pin, this job is a pain. Use a motorcycle chain tool instead (I got one from Hazard Fraught), and replacing the distributor shaft seal becomes an easy job. OP, you only need to replace that seal if the old seal is allowing oil into the distributor - if it is...

    common oil leak sources?

I guess I'm confused. If the oil is being burned up due to bad piston rings, wouldn't you get blue smoke from the tailpipe? Seems from what I'm reading 1qt every 1k miles is pretty bad. Mine has 155k miles, so I don't think I should be burning this much oil (and I think it would be obvious if it...

    common oil leak sources?

Do you notice blue smoke or smell burning oil? Have you done a compression test? Is your gas mileage good? I don't have the obvious symptoms of lots of oil being burned (blue smoke, oil burning odor, poor gas mileage, poor power). I have to do a compression test at some point. Agreed. If...

    common oil leak sources?

Yeah, I'd think a leak from the oil pan gasket would leave quite the mess on the floor. But next time I'm under the car, I will take a look around the oil pan, just to be sure. Yes, I replaced the o-ring that sits between the engine and distributor, and the shaft seal inside the distributor...

    common oil leak sources?

What is this part? It sits on top of the transmission housing and looks pretty grimy. Not sure oil is fed through it though (and I haven't noticed any issues with the manual transmission, so I don't think I'm losing transmission fluid).

    common oil leak sources?

I'm going through a quart of oil every 1k miles. There was some obvious leaking around and under the distributor, so I replaced the distributor O-ring and distributor shaft seal (there was a little oil in the distributor cap). This made no noticeable difference in the amount of oil I'm losing...

Bleed clutch without removing front motor mount?

You guys are right - removing at least the upper portion of the front engine mount (the part that attaches to the engine block), would make for much easier access. As it turns out, there's some kind of blockage in the slave cylinder. Even with the bleeder screw completely removed, there was no...

Bleed clutch without removing front motor mount?

2001 I4 MT I'm looking to replace flush the clutch fluid (it's still using the original fluid) - I figure after 17 years, I should probably take care of this. Here's a pic of the clutch slave cylinder. Not a lot of room around that bleeder nipple. Have you guys been able to get a wrench on...

    Coupe inner tail light removal

There are some small gaps in the weatherstripping and you can see these gaps between the trunk lid and tail light assembly. But the weatherstripping is not in such terrible shape that I want to deal with removing all of it. I'm thinking I might apply some clear RTV silicone where those gaps...

    Coupe inner tail light removal

Got it off - threaded each of the 10 nuts back on a few threads, then whacked them all with a mallet. The outer gasketing was sticking to the trunk lid, so whacking the mounting bolts helped loosen it up. The inner tail light assembly came off easily after that. Looks like 2 kinds of gaskets...

    Coupe inner tail light removal

I'm replacing the tail light gaskets and the outer tail lights were easy enough to remove and reinstall. But how do you remove the inner (trunk lid) tail lights on a 6th gen coupe? The manual makes it look like there are only 5 nuts on each side (2 on the outer edge that are accessible from the...

    VTEC solenoid gasket info

Thanks. It would have been a pain to have to drain coolant and disconnect coolant line to remove the vtec solenoid. By "valve cover gasket", I assume you're referring to the head cover gasket? Honda part # 12341-P0A-000 (# 3 in diagram): I don't think that gasket is leaking, but replacing it...
