    It's the seal around the crankshaft where it attaches to the.... we'll just say where it attaches to the transmission, easier for you to understand probably. The seal is cheap. The labor to do it will destroy your back, arms, clad bone, or bank account. Or all if you're not careful. But...

    yes. tie rod end is my suspicions as well. been there. dealt with that noise and similar diagnosis. definitely check that. new ones did the trick.

    yeah, actually i decided after a few close calls and emergency stops that my brakes are working fine... the groaning still happens occasionally, but i'm just blaming it on the shorted pump. i think i'm going to bleed the brakes sometime in the next week and see how that goes. i'll get back to...
