Can a 1998 Accord start if you just remove immobilizer chip?

No, the other chips on the board are still going to try and utilize the immobilizer chip. You either need to have it tuned out or spoof the signal with your bypass board.

    clutch problem or axle problem

Sounds just like what my clutch sounded like when one of the springs started coming out of the hub on the disc. Aftermarket or stock?

    tapping after valve timing adjusted

It's not a bearing knock, it's valvetrain noise. The F23's have have an adjustable flat-tappet valvetrain system, so oil pressure is not necessary to maintain the proper valve lash. OP, what most likely happened is the tech didn't eyeball the cam gear marks close enough on cyl #2 and #3 when he...

Just changes the compression ratio. The truck came with -5cc dished pistons, replacing them with 0cc flat pistons bumps the compression from 9.5 to about 10.5:1.

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

I guess... working with what I've got. I dropped it back down to a 5.3 build again... I lost 20hp. That's easy enough to pick up elsewhere without spending $1k to do it. Boring the block to 3.905", mill the deck and have it sonic checked afterward would be $470, pistons come in at $540. Yeah...

    Brake light components

When you press the brake pedal, the switch closes and completes the circuit. Very simple. I believe they are 4-wire plugs, 2 are used for the brake light circuit and the other 2 are used for the shift interlock solenoid to allow you to shift out of park. If one of your brake lights work, but...

    Brake light components

Lemmie, the bulbs are dual filament. One filament is for the tail light (dim) and the other is for the brake light (bright). You probably just have one of the two filaments burned out. The alarm flashing the parking/tail lights. Bulbs are cheap, go from there. EDIT: As far as components go, you...

NEED HELP! System fuel too lean..P0171 error code!

Sounds like how an engine runs when the ECT gets too hot or too cold because there is no coolant on it. Nothing computer related. As far as your lean code... probably not an oxygen sensor. Most likely a vacuum leak somewhere... like a PCV valve or hose, or a bad intake manifold gasket or...

My clutch line is threaded on both ends

98-00 had a nylon slave and 01-02 has the updated cast iron slave. Honda has discontinued the nylon version and will sell you an 01-02 cast iron one. I had to replace a nylon one on a 98 at work about a month ago and had to use the 01-02. I'm actually looking at the slave right now... part...

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

I don't know what the history of it is... the bores still have a nice crosshatch on them. I'll measure them tomorrow and see what's really going on. I think every man and his brother would have an LS7 or LS9 if they could afford it. Obvious first choice, but then again how many people do you...

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

Picked up the block yesterday morning, had it torn down before noon. Took the block, heads, mains, and pistons over to the diesel shop to use their awesome parts washer. Apparently the engine I picked up was run out of oil; every single bearing was garbage. Scoring on every single crank...

Timing Belt & Water Pump question?

Yeah, 98+ timing belts have a 105k/7yr service interval and the older ones are something like every 60k. TIME PLAYS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR. I just put a new cylinder head on a 97 Accord that only had 43,000 miles on it. Guess what? Timing belt broke after 14 years of exposure to the elements.

Saying good bye to the accord...well sorta

Sad to see it go, but there's always something better up ahead. Hey, I want to go again. I'll either be in Eric's Accord or drive my truck out... the Chicagoland meet was never really about the cars anyways.

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

The biggest reasons are a) I can build this engine and attach an exhaust to it for ~$3000, including oil and coolant and ****. Down to the penny. And b) it's my daily, the quicker I can swap out motors and flash the PCM, the happier I'll be. I'm just looking for more power with the least amount...
