    ★ Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! ★ *UPDATED 4/15* ★

Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! *UPDATED 10/10/10* Bigger ports would drop velocity of the air flowing into the head. Head are all about velocity. If you port bigger than needed, you drop speed of airflow, at the same rpm. This will affect low-end/mid-range torque. Porting is beneficial...

    ★ Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! ★ *UPDATED 4/15* ★

Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! *UPDATED 10/10/10* Any gains on a boosted setup would be minimal at best. If you are going with big boost, you will see an advantage, but I wouldn't bother until hitting 20+ psi on a properly sized turbo. Like most things, Honda engineers did a really good...

Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! *UPDATED 10/10/10* Milling will also have an effect on cam timing. I think you retard cam timing 1* for every mm you mill. Not 100% sure about that though. I'll look into it and get back. You could also consider running a thinner headgasket to bump...

    Painted Vinyl Seats?!?

Even worse - He had them reupholstered in yellow vinyl. FAIL. It worked out ok for me though. Nobody wanted yellow seats, so they were really cheap. Accord786 - It's probably because you applied the paint to leather and not vinyl. The paint is made for synthetic materials, not the real deal...

    DIY Battery Relocation

AK - It's a great idea. My only comment/concern is maybe adding a mounting point on the bottom of the cage. I could see that thing moving out from the body when hitting sharp bumps and eventually breaking away.

    Painted Vinyl Seats?!?

Yeah, the flat black still has a little shine to it, so I couldn't imagine the glossy black looks good. Accord786 - You should try respraying with the flat black. It will bring the shine down some. Knox47 - I have used the vinyl paint on a steering wheel before. It soaks into the top...

    Painted Vinyl Seats?!?

So, some of you know that I recently picked up a CRX for a project. I have been prowling my local Craig'slist for finds and deals. Just Friday, I picked up a recently rebuilt SI tranny with a welded diff (it's not gonna be a daily, will rarely be on the street, so don't even start on the welded...

    Window Weld-ed Motor Mounts

Deep socket 17mm to loosen the bracket from the tranny. Loosen the bolt from mount to the bracket. Then you can get the bracket out of the way enough to get to the mount bolts. I have big hands (6'5"), so I was never really able to get down there and loosen by hand. Open ended wrench a 1/4 turn...

    ★ Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! ★ *UPDATED 4/15* ★

Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! *UPDATED 10/10/10* OEM thrust bearings will be fine. They won't see any additional load or wear/tear in an upgraded engine. If you store a crank on it's side, there is a much better chance of stepping on it, which would put it off axis, or of scratching the...

    ★ Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! ★ *UPDATED 4/15* ★

Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! *UPDATED 10/10/10* This. Our cranks have 55mm mains and 97mm stroke. No other Honda 55mm crank has the same stroke, so treating your current crank is your only real option. No biggy though. You can rev to 7200 with upgraded valvetrain without piston...

    Window Weld-ed Motor Mounts

I think the WW is 75 or so on the Shore scale. Really not that much stiffer than the OEM rubber, but it adds rigidity due to their being more material and the fact that you're filling the areas designed to give. It is the worst at start up. The first time I cranked it, I thought I'd left a...

    Window Weld-ed Motor Mounts

2 weeks ago, before I bought the project car, I picked up some new motor mounts and a couple tubes of 3m window weld. Washed them in soapy water to remove any coating/residue they may have had from the manufacturing process. Dried them thoroughly. Proceeded to fill in the gaps with window...

    DIY Video on changing clutch

Re: DYI Video on changing clutch There's no reason NOT to go ahead and drop it down at that point. Why deal with the pita of removing/installing the clutch with it in the way when it's a twist of a jack to drop it?

    DIY Video on changing clutch

Re: DYI Video on changing clutch 4 minute video, lot's of editing. If you didn't notice, all of the bolts were loosened when they shot him taking them off. $1k for a clutch replacement? Shouldn't be over a couple hundred in labor, so what clutch you getting? Spec twin disk carbon?

    ★ Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! ★ *UPDATED 4/15* ★

Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! *UPDATED 10/10/10* I am a cheap bastard. I will do everything I can to save as much as possible. But I would be ok spending less than $200 more on a piston set that I am 100% comfortable with. I have seen Arias pistons crack. I have never even heard of...

It's a good problem to have...

Yeah, I will stay at 10 psi or below, at least until I build a motor. I'm lucky to have Secret Services here in Houston. Those guys are really good at doing detailed tunes. Part throttle, full throttle. They have tuned ALMS cars, so my ride should be no issue. I've heard that Tony is a stand...

It's a good problem to have...

EVERY car comes with traction control. It's called the accelerator. Racing is about finding the edge and getting as close as possible to going over it without actually going over it. If you think over/understeer is about HP levels, I highly recommend you stay away from RWD cars.

    Westheimer!!!

I wasn't looking for somewhere to go race. I agree that street racing is a bad idea, but back in the early 90's we didn't have any tracks, except for Baytown, to go to. Now there is Houston Motorsports Park. No tickets, no innocent bystanders.

I could do it in a day. I'm going to take it easy though, trying to sell most of the interior and glass. Going to Lexan on everything except front windscreen and door glass. Plus, I work 50-60 hours a week.

It's a good problem to have...

That is a very inaccurate statement. With a k24, and the turbo I mentioned, I would be at 10 psi around 3k rpm. Seeing as I would remain above that point the vast majority of the time, there would be no issue. If you're talking about a small displacement motor pushing 20+ psi, then yes, it would...
