Not sure how relevant this is a few years on...
I just finished adding steering wheel controls to my 2000 Accord SE and finally got them figured out using a $50 ASWC-1 I found on Amazon. I had to manually program the Accord steering wheel buttons to the ASWC-1 for my Android radio and switch some wiring (brown/white wire from the ASWC-1 had to go to Key 1 on my radio, and Brown to Key 2, which is opposite to the ASWC-1 instructions), but with a brand name radio it should just be plug and play for you.
