Anyone else notice their speedometer reads too fast?

Ever since I bought my 2000 Accord V6 I've noticed the speedometer has been showing me going faster than I actually am. The faster I drive the more it's off so it's not a needle placement issue/fix. At 30mph It'll read 31 which I can live with but at 63 it reads 65, 75 is reading as 79 and so on. It's exactly like it would be if you had smaller tires on it. The tires I have on it now are brand new stock size with 11/32 tread so they are as big as stock gets right now.

I know the clusters are completely different between the I4 and V6's so it's likely this is only a V6 issue.

The car is completely bone stock with factory 15 inch rims. Tire size is 205/65R15.

The only solution I see is to put on tires that are one size larger. Using a tire size speed calculator I found out that 205/70R15 tires would put the speed dead on throughout the range. Not sure if they will rub or not though.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing with their V6 Accord. Let us know. Thanks.

It's common. Same in my I4 but this goes for most cars. It is calibrated digitally correctly though. Analog, not so much. My Ultragauge which obtains the data from OBD2 always matches the GPS so make what you will of that one.

^as was stated above I believe this is common for most cars. I have a V6 and my speedometer is always faster than the speed trap signs. I had a 91 Accord that was the same way, in fact every car I can think of haven driven has been this way.
Personally I think it is done intentionally by manufactures to give a little lee-way.

Good point. I did notice the OBD port data has a perfect speed reading too. I just drive whatever the speedo says anyways, might make people on the road mad but at least I'm saving some gas.

Mine was about 10% tall, ~60mph indicated at ~55mph, changed tires (sig\/) for this and other reasons.

It's common for most cars to read speed as a little faster than it should be. It's done intentionally since manufacturers can get in some serious doo-doo if speedos read lower than actual speed for any reason. So, they err on the side of caution. :)

VWs are particularly bad with this.
