So I have ran into a issue. While the half car trailer is at the welding shop I realized it can get pretty hot inside the cars. They're framing an opening for a basement window I'm going to install. I'm worried tho on hot days is that gonna be enough air flow or cooling for dogs? Been searching high and low for a solution yet to find one. I was thinking powering a radiator fan behind the window but that would defeat the purpose of the window so the dogs can see in front of them. Also looked into rv tongue mounted units but they say they aren't meant for travel and only for when they are parked at campsite.. plus they want 500 bucks for the unit.. Any ideas?? No...cars are solar ovens. The dogs will die in the heat within hours. Get some kind of portable outdoor dog pen. Or leash the dog to the car. Unless the windows are all the way down its gonna get too hot inside a car.
Lol I know this. Dog lover here. It's for the half car trailer. The only time they will be in it is when we are traveling from campground to campground. Windows are already tinted and the windows will be down because they love to hang out of them going down the highway. Was just looking for another way to cool it a little more for the hot hot days. damn that looks sweet. If it is just while driving than I believe the windows down will be plenty of air. I didnt have AC in my car for over 5 years and it gets in the triple digits with 90 percent humidity here. I survived
I was thinking that too. Were making a trip out to Oregon next year with the pups to visit my parents. We plan on doing 5 hours then stop at a local dog park for 30 to let them stretch their legs then another 4 or 5 hours to camp that night. I think the windows down will be ok but they are our babies so anything else I can help to keep em cool I'm looking for. Any tips or advice? So one idea I have is to create a mount for a generator and AC unit to the tongue of the car. The generator would of course be used to power the AC unit. The AC unit could be one of those smaller window mounted home AC units. The mounting of course would all be fabbed up at the weld shop where this is all happening to fit in the trailer. Since you want to have your dogs still look ahead, perhaps have it mounted lower in the body which would allow for a window to still be placed up high where a windshield would be? IDK, just an idea. So here are some stuffs for you to consider: 3500 watt Briggs & Stratton generator weighs 121lbs. 8000 BTU LG wall mount AC unit weighs 66lbs AC Unit Wall Case for AC unit weighs 22lbs. A total of 209lbs of additional weight with those items. Of course, you'd want to add another....25lbs?....of weight for the materials needed to frame / secure it all to the tongue of the trailer. Rounding it out, it's 235lbs of extra weight. Not sure if that's more weight than what you're comfortable with, but it pretty much what you're looking at.
