I wanted to say THANK YOU! It fixed my problem, dash lights not working. I read that the multiplexer might be the problem, but this site was the only one with a picture of the actual multiplexer. To be clear, all the lights on my dash were working, but the backlight and the speedo did not light up when the headlights were on.

FYI, these things just dont go bad. I picked one up at a junkyard for $35.

just curious why one would want to replace this when it goes bad?

keep in mind i just got my car (99 ex i4 sedan) and previous owner burned up the multiplex unit when he installed the kenwood head unit, so i might be missing functions of the car that i dont know about but the only thing i noticed not working was the dash lights/climate control lights..... splicing into the red clock wire and grounding it took 30 seconds and now all the lights work like they should.

am i missing something else that maybe isnt working?

Multiplexors are trim specific right? Like EX(blue) multiplexors can only be swapped with other EX models and LX(grey) ones can be swapped with other LX's?

Friend of mine has a 2000 EX V6 sedan with a blown multiplexor and I pulled one from the junkyard (for freeee ;)) out of an 2002 EX i4 coupe, part number 38800-S84-A240M1. Couldn't find on the board or google if they indeed will swap with no problems. I believe I'll be alright but does anyone know?

How do I know which side I have to replace? My horn goes through the one on the pass side and the horn stopped working (Along with dash light) so would I change out the pass one or driver one or both? lol

Im also not sure why we would have to remove our seat/center console if its just in the side like that?

for real? even if they were both EX's or LX's?

Both EX and LX i4 multiplexors are the same, only difference between the two would be the fuse box having an extra relay. The extra relay on EX-L trim had the option of the headlights turning it self off after you lock your doors. Reason the v6 multiplexor also won't work for the i4, the backside of the v6 multiplexor will not attach to the i4 driverside fusebox; the "hard" lesson I learned lol:eusa_wall:, thus makes them different.

I check your fuses first, that's what I did before I replaced my multiplexor. Just don't make the same mistake I did, money wasted lol.

I have checked all the fuses and everything is fine. I know without a doubt now its the multiplexor... im just unsure if its the driver side or pass side?
