Faulty Fuel Pump?

Where rusted out cars don't exist
Earlier today I left home to go on an errand and went to use my Accord. I turned the key and my car wouldn't start. I did turn over so I know the battery and starter are good, but I got no spark. I tried starting my Accord a few times before giving up and driving my other car.

When I got back home, I go to try to start my Accord and try to listen for the fuel pump to prime. I didn't hear anything. Needless to say, I think I might have a bad fuel pump. Though after doing some searching, I see that the most common thing that came up aside from fuses was the relay. If it is the main relay, Post #14 here is the most informative here outside of replacing the main relay. Speaking of that particular post though, which solder points need to be redone? All of them? Or just the ones that have multiple points going through them? It's only mentioned that there are 26 solder points that need to be done.

The kicker here is a few hours after I got back home, I attempted to start my car once again and guess what? It starts! So, this particular symptom appears to be that the relay's solder points are going bad? At least that's my understanding so far from what I've read.

If important, today was pretty warm, but not SoCal blazing hot. There was a pretty big temperature difference between yesterday and today, 15F difference. From what I've read, if it's a relay issue, ambient temperature can affect it?

A bad fuel pump is doubtful since they rarely go out on our cars. A main relay is much more likely. I'm not sure of the exact solder points, but I'm pretty sure they're posted somewhere on here.

I had a similar problem. After replacing my main relay I started suspecting the immobilizer. It turned out that my key was just worn. I started using my spare key and no longer had the issue.

I recently learned that the main relay not only controls the fuel pump, but spark as well. I do the whole thing when I repair them just because the age of all the solder is the same and it could all fail at some point quite honestly. If the CEL doesn't test in the key's second position, definitely check into that main relay.

Try to start the car and if you do not hear the fuel pump whine and thus the car does not start, open the doors and leave it set for 5-10 minutes. Then try starting it again. If you hear the fuel pump whine and then the car starts, it is likely your main relay.

The newer relays no longer have the solder point problem, I’d buy a new one and replace it yourself since they’re not that expensive.
