DIY definitely.

A. It's easy as cake. (haha, don't let the lens touchany metal IN the oven..)
B. Chance to learn "how to" do something. Sense of accomplishment, etc.
C. Like Talontsiawd said, you get to choose just how you want it, aka chrome sides/no chrome sides and amber/no amber strips.

There are several How-To's on here, and TAS is a Vendor on the site as well.

From personal experience in dealing with TAS, you would be in good hands.

As far as the DIY experience, haven't done it personally, but you could always pick up a set and try for yourself and keep an extra stock set just in case.
