Just installed a K&n typhoon intake on my v6. I've never installed an intake on any of my cars before, but i did know they would be louder than stock. However, on idle my car seems to have this humming almost foghorn like sound.

From my understanding if there were any air leaks it would be more of a whistling sound rather than that of blowing over a empty glass bottle? I tried searching but i couldnt really find a video of a CAI on idle in a 6th gen to compare to. Its hard to tell if its just resonance from the tubes or perhaps the IAC, but the car isnt running or idling rough? Im kinda lost here because im still pretty new to working on cars. Don't really know if this is how the intake is supposed to normally sound or if something is sucking air in that i cant find/air filter is pressing up the bumper. any help is greatly appreciated. :eh:

Sounds about normal for a car with an aftermarket intake. I don't see anything really wrong with it. It's probably because of the cone filter that's sucking in more air and due to the fact that you don't have a resonator anymore. Did you connect the vacuum hose to it? I saw one of the breather tubes open or at least I think I did.

I dont have the K&N intake, so I cant tell you firsthand, but I do have an EBay intake, and mine makes the hissing sound. It does not do the "music note" type sound though..

thanks for the help fellas. put my nerves at ease lol, being a newbie to working on cars can be a bit scary when you don't know good from bad. now i just gotta get those valves adjusted,. Theres nothing bad that can happen if i cant afford it right now and put it off correct? It's just more to cancel out the ticking noise?
