Trying to put together a system for cheap. Well, except the expensive DVD/GPS HU. I want a clean sound with decent bass. AKA still make rear-view mirror vibrate. Doesn't have to blow you away.

What I've picked out so far:

HU: Kenwood DNX-7120 (instead of the Avic-F900BT) ($850)

6.5's: Polk DB651s: 6-55W RMS, Freq Res. 50-22,000Hz ($68)
6x9's: Alpine TS-A6962R: 2-40W RMS, Freq Res. 28-28,000Hz ($47)
Powered By Amp: Clarion APA 450: 400W 4CH (~$100)

Already Have:
Sub: 12" Diamond Audio (not sure how many watts, 250? 350?)
Powered By Amp: MTX Thunder 4250D Mono (350W)

Does anyone have any objections or concerns? Any better speakers at similar values?

Thanks guys for your help.

i googled Alpine TS-A6962R. there is no such thing... is that supposed to be Pioneer.

hmmm... your not stepping your game up too much with that system... you almost don't even need to bother amping them because the RMS rating is so low. The 6x9 speakers you have chosen are pretty much what i would recommend for a direct stock speaker replacement, just something slightly better than stock. I have no major complaints about the polks. I know nothing about those type of headunits so no opinion on that. The RMS output on the amp matches up nicely with what you have chosen, so no complaints there either.

Like Simplesedan99 said, everything will sound fine. On such a small budget i dont think you will find anything better. I amazoned the pioneers, and you can get them for 40 after shipping, not a huge difference but it might help.

Dont expect much bass from the speakers, you'll probably end up breaking them if you try. but you've got a sub so that should be all you need.

My recommendation is to save up the money for some quality stuff, I don't think you'd regret it. but do what you gotta do.

i hoestly think u can do better with teh HU. Pioneer has a bunch of cheaper previous year models that u can find much cheaper than 850. but thats IMO... kenwood is not my cup of tea

^^^ Based on reviews, Kenwood DNX-7120 > Pioneer's Avic-D3 and newer Avic-F900BT. A lot less software/connectivity issues. And Garmin Nav is awesome....

Matt, thanks for noticing the Pioneer/Alpine mix-up. I knew they were Pioneers... don't know why I wrote that.

So what should I be looking at in terms of RMS for the 6x9's for decent sound? And would the 50Wx4 Amp be enough for good speakers? I don't know how much I need to step my game up to sound good. Thanks for the comments so far guys.

I'd be able to do a lot better in the speaker/amp dept is DVD/NAV HU's weren't SO DAMN EXPENSIVE.

be like it is
i wouldnt even bother with rear speakers. i dont have any, and the only people who bitch are the ppl in the back seat. youre in back for a reason :lawl: so stfu

it doesnt matter what people say on the internet...go to a place that have both source units and play with em...see which you like to use more.

-You know i am sure that setup you are considering will sound pretty good since you are planning to amp them, i didn't mean for that post to sound like i was saying it was going to suck. sorry. any improvement over stock will step up your game, just that system wont be baller.

-You are looking at all of the low end stuff from the companies you have listed, so of course they wont be great in comparison to their higher end, or even mid/entry level stuff. In my experience stuff hovering around 100 watts +-30 has been great. but to do that you would have to probably double your budget. wattage really doesn't have a very strong correlation to quality though.

- my advice is to go ahead with the system you've listed, and if it turns out to be less than you'd hoped for (expectations wise), sell it to a friend and then try for something a little better.

-have you had the chance to sample the speakers you listed? why do you want a DVD/Navi headunit anyways? just get some balls out crazy good speakers and amp for that money and have fat parties in your car. thats what i did :coffee:

+1 for forgetting the rear speakers.
+ I suggest you invest in the front speakers more, go for 2-way 6.5" components of a brand you like (Polk is fine)
+ concentrate on money for the install. Deadning and proper installation will do more for your sound than even the best gear.

Hmm, thanks for all the comments thus far guys.

I'd like to get the DVD/NAV receiver because, well, it's sick obviously, lol. And 99% of my music is played through my iPod, and the iPod integration is awesome for it supposedly. Again, the Garmin GPS is awesome too. And it would just look sick in my dash. Idk...it's a lot of money that could be spent towards pure sound though. SO I have to give that some more thought.

And I've ruled out component speakers.... I'm not putting new tweeters anywhere. :smash:
