So someone on RPR (my civic site) is doing a homemade ITB build for his race motor... mildly modified D15A3... and it got me wondering: are ITB's worth it.

in this there are two major factors of the ITB's, homemade vs professionally made.

other than high end RPM gains, and absurd throttle response i'm not sure they're worth it for something streetable.... but then again i'm a noob when it comes to engine stuff

if anyone has knowledge coughEriccough about them i'd love to hear it

The thing about building your own ITB setup is that it would be almost impossible to synchronize them.

ITB's don't really increase throttle response, they are either on or they are off. There is no real mid range to speak of. They just seem to be less than ideal for street applications, IMO.

First question in your post you put race motor but a midly moddified one I would think a race motor would be a highly modded one. If its for the track I would say yes but I know that the homemade ones wouldnt compare to a profesonally made one. I read and article about how they desinged they trumptets and every other part header, cam, exhaust to work with it an optomize the performance. And I know the R&D put into making itb's is really high. But I'm sure if its just a track motor it would benifit from having these as compared to a standard manifold but I would think the gains would be more up in the higher revs.

You kinda have to look at them sort of as carbs for FI vehicles. Not really the best description but only one I could come up with.

A properly matched IM/TB combo can work wonders as well. Depends on where you want the power band.

yeah, I'm deciding that a good set of cams will get me the power i need and the only lull of power would be between 3 and 5 grand.... which i think i can handle

right now my biggest concern is getting a good gearbox to handle the power
