Hi, I have a 98 accord ex and have modded aftermarket head units custom lcd gauges backup camera amp sub new speakers led internal lights mirror blinkers aftermarket ccfl halo projector lamps Internal ac plugs and others. As you could imagine my alternator cant possibly put out enough amperage to run it all at once. i cant listen to the radio and roll down the windows at the same time my headlights are dim when i have my ps4 on. I need to upgrade to 210 or more amps does anyone know of where i could find one that would fit my car without the need of a custom bracket. i know the v6 has what i need but it has a different bracket. the prelude has different plug. also if i upgrade from 110amps to over 200 will i fry my existing wiring harness. I know i will need to upgrade my battery terminal cabels and add more grounds. also i would like to add a second battery do i need to do this or just upgrade my alternator.

I'd add a 1-wire alternator, if you have space for another alternator.

yup, part of the reason for a 1-wire type.

It just supplies voltage regulated power. As many as you want!

but dont the alternators attach to a belt that spins around the engine? and as far as i know on a 6th gen accord there is only one place i could put one. I have a dohc vtec just for size idea.

depends, what's more important, a/c, or voltage...

your first bit to check would be the voltage drop of wires

Haha. That's leading someone to water but there is a cliff to scale down first. :)

Just have someone local rewind the alternator and see how that goes. If you still have low voltage problems then you might be able to solve it with more batteries.

oh, I guess I could add:

stock uses something like 6awg wire (bigger than 8awg, smaller than 4awg, idk what it is, something in mm^2). Most issues come from voltage drop across wires because our system is not designed to run everything all the time. Just changing alternator and battery to 4awg might help you out, but as I said, check the voltage drop on wires (which should be done with everything running!). You might only see 0.5v drop, but multiply that by amperage (call it) 150a, your looking at a 75 watt drain, 75w to do nothing, but make the wires warmer.

That is true. In that scenario, 20A lost as heat. Oversize wire will fix that problem, but it doesn't make more power, just prevents a current flow bottleneck.

for all the mods on this site for 6th gen accords specifically i thought that someone had already done this and could give me a quick link as to where i could buy one with more amps All i want is to have the stereo up and the windows and sunroof to work. I was told i needed to do a big 3 upgrade, but no one near me knows of any accord alternator upgrade that you can buy or one that has been done. I assume you guys with your more advanced systems with bigger stereos and hid kits might have a solution that doesn't include modifying my car to the point of installing a second alternator in a car that has barely any room for anything in the engine bay. I thought everyone here had this car. Am i the only one experiencing problems?:eh:
