Just got myself a 2001 accord lx 5-speed, extremely low miles.

Drove 150 miles, then the SRS light came on. I assume they reset it for the sale, not sure.

Ive read as much as i can about the SRS light, I know it can cost hundreds of dollars to replace the module, or a few hundred for the passenger seat weight sensor, or if I'm lucky maybe its just the seatbelt mechanism itself..

But one thing I'm not clear about, if I'm willing to spend the 800 for a whole new module and whatever the code is to fix my SRS light problem, will the car be fixed?

I haven't had the code read yet, tried the 8 and 13 jumped w no success.

Im going to tomorrow to have the code read for 50$. Whatever comes up I'm willing to have it fixed professionally. But my question is, if i have it fixed, is it likely to have a problem in the near future? or if i have the problem fixed for hundreds of dollars, will it be a permanent fix.

Thanks,
Vin

Im going to have it checked out tomorrow.

Ill probably be sucked in for a few hundred at least. Im praying for it to just be the seatbelt.

the car has super low miles, only 9,000 so i feel its worth the couple hundred of it'll last a long time i just don't want to spend 800, the find out that the whole module needs to be replaced again in a few years.

anymore thoughts?

What happened when you had no success?

I tried it w the 01 and i just had no results..

plugged into the 8 and 13.. tried pushing it in a far as i could cautiously, i don't want to do damage.. turned the ignition on, and the SRS light just remained on, no blinking.

I posted this on a similar thread yesterday. Try it again. It truly works. Also, wasn't your 93 OBDI? Maybe pin setup is different? Not familiar.

Best thing to do is definitely jump pins. I do it all the time. A previous post of mine...

Most standard code readers will not spit out codes for the ABS and other similar systems in the car. There is a way though. You will need to short pin 8 and 13 like in this picture (http://www.k-series.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=901&d=1293470014) and the cluster will begin to flash out codes once you turn the key to the on position. Long flashes pertain to the "tens" place. Short flashes pertain to the "ones" place. Once you have all the codes, match them up to the list for the system described...

SRS Codes

Need further help? Upload a video to youtube of the flashes! I'll help ya out!

Here is a procedure on Youtube. This is for the CEL it says, but this works across all systems.

I feel like I may have not done it correctly. I pushed the paper clip into the front of the port and didn't have luck. Do I need to plug it into the back of it?

Post number five is what I used as a guide. This resets the SRS light only and works, I have used this on 3, 6th gen accords all with success. Mine never came back on. It involves shorting out the pins on the MES plug. The plug is above the drivers side kick panel two pin yellow connector. If done properly this procedure takes less than a minute to clear the light. Post #5 http://www.superhonda.com/forum/f13/how-reset-srs-light-59738/

I would try to reset it and see if it comes back. If it does then I would look into it further. The seat belt sensor was replaced under warranty a long while ago but never had an issue with the passenger seat sensor.

EDIT: The video posted above is for the CEL system, SRS is an independent system from the CEL and wont reset using the method above.

Copy and pasted the procedure here: the link above has pics.

1. Locate MES Plug. It should be located near the driver's side fuse panel under the dash. The harness is yellow with two wires.

2. Unplug the MES Plug.

3. Insert one end of speaker wire into MES Plug (one wire in each contact)

4. Follow this sequence of shorting the other two leads of the speaker wire and turning the ignition to "on" (not accessory, not start)

Short and hold the leads while you turn the ignition to on. The SRS Light will illuminate for a few seconds then go off.
When the SRS Light goes off, unshort the wires. The SRS Light will come back on.
Short and hold the wires again. The SRS Light will go off.
When the SRS Light goes off, unshort the wires. The SRS Light will blink twice.
Turn the ignition off.
Start engine as normal. The SRS Light should illuminate for a couple of seconds as normal and then go off.
This series of shorting/unshorting needs to take place within a 4 second window of the SRS Light going on/off each time.
