so i bought some drilled and slotted prelude rotors a few months back. when i bought them they were already a little rusty. but at the time just to the point where a little bit of hard braking after install would remove the rust. but after sitting in my garage they've gotten worse. to the point where i wanna clean them up first before i put them on the car. i googled "rust remover" and all kinds of products popped up. and some happen to be kinda pricey. so i wanna ask you guys what would my best route be of trying to get these back to a brand new like condition before i go out and spend monies on cleaners. thanks for any advice.

wire brush, brakleen, steel wool. And paint the hub flat black.

They won't look like new, but they'll look much better.

will be trying chris's method today. i also find a youtube video where a guy makes his own rust remover with lemon juice and baking soda. it seemed to work decently.

Are you trying to avoid putting them on a lathe?

Re: removing rust for rotors

i would never buy used rotors.....

as for the rust, the surface will clean itself up once it gets in contact with the brake pad.. all i would clean up is the outside portion with a metal brush

This.

That's like buyng used underwear. There's no price or "deal" so great to warrant me doing such a thing. Spring for a set of new.

OR, take them somewhere and throw them on a lathe and only take off 3 or 4-thousanths
