Glad to see you're progressing with the project! Ever since I painted the Accord I dont want to drive it anymore lololol even though it's supposed to be my daily. Gonna push my beater CL thru the winter and pull the motor in the spring. Hoping to save money for parts to throw at it once the motor is out and needs to be refreshed.

Are you putting the refreshed motor back into the CL or swapping it into the Accord? Love seeing the updates when I pop back into the site!

Thanks! Haha I hear you lol keep the paint fresh! Good luck with your CL! I'm gonna put this motor back into the CL, and drive it as a beater for a while until I settle my plan for the swap. i.e. where/what/how to keep my gutted out CL afterwards etc.

Got more new parts thrown into the motor. Oil Pan, crank pulley (couldn't resist with the old one), new(er) AC compressor from my Accord's spare. There will be a fresh n shiny set of the timing belt cover bolts as well.




Got my DC Sports headers modded to clear the rear MT mount. The piping is bent and the mount's arm is slightly scraped off to remain the clearance.



Took the transmission home so I could clean it out on my own. Took some elbow greasing but I think it became pretty decent now.


Got some parts for the clutch release fork, since they were pretty worn out. Once the MT is back on, the P.S. rack, cat converter, and the exhausts system will be on the go next.

That's interesting, my Innovative rear mount is in a vertical orientation. Guess they changed the design at some point.

I'm not sure, if they ever changed their design, but as far as I know, the motor mounts that are designed its bushing facing out vertically would be the rear one for the AT motor & the front one(s) for both MT and AT motor. Their website's photo also says it. Maybe you thought I was talking about the front motor, or perhaps something got mixed up in your memory, and you forgot about the rear mount's bushing facing out in sideways?

The car is almost getting ready to be picked up! Interestingly, they were unable to install my Innovative's RH passenger side engine motor mounts. I'll keep on rocking with the original mount until further notice, but whatever. I'll figure it out soon. The pre-owned HID ballast that I supplied didn't work out, so I still need to get another one, but from what I was reported, I'm confident that the car is coming back in an optimum level. He literally told me that I'll be pretty happy with the car's outcome. It's been a while since I felt so much excitement about my cars. I might need to start thinking about getting new(er) tires, before having too much fun with my old Pirellis going bad too soon.

Got the car back and drove it about a week. DAMN.., THIS CAR IS SO MUCH FUCKING FUN TO DRIVE.. Since I’ve been driving this thing like a grandma on a limp mode from day one, two years ago, I never have realized how this car could be such a beast. When it speeds up, that additional 60HP from the AV6 can definitely create more gravitational push. I think I know how 250HP feels like (on my Pilot lol), but it’s way quicker n pushier than that. Maybe I should appreciate the I.H.E upgrades + J37 IM setup for that. When entering on a highway, I feel like the car wants to accelerate forever until it reaches the redzone for the next gear, on each and every single gears.. The VTEC kicks in right before the 5K RPM, and it has a distinctively high toned, scratchy metallic sound like a jet engine on an airplane lol. It sounds way more different than how it comes out of my AV6’s roaring SRI. The new clutch feels solid and firm as well. It’s nice to be able to shift gears regardless of being at any RPM’s on any inclined roads. I forgot how fun rev matching was lol. (Can paddle shifters do rev matching these days btw?) Anyways, I was really underestimating how fun this car could be, compared to my AV6. My accord is definitely quicker on corners, but there’s no chance for it to beat this car haha. Now I know how this J32 feels like, and once again, I just can’t wait until I swap this thing into my Accord.

While the car has been running like a champ, there has been a bit of some vibration from one of my motor mounts. It's because the passenger side's Innovative mount did not fit correctly for some reason, and I kept rocking with the original (torn, too) mount. Sent out the car to the shop to get the new factory mount installed. Also noticed that some of the wiring and hosing in the engine bay were reconnected and rerouted differently, so those will be taken care as well. I thought this would be it, but the radiator was leaking fluid from the upper hose & the valve cover seal washers were seeping oil lol. Was going to extract the upper hose from my Accord at the motor swap in the future but oh well. Hopefully, the radiator itself will hold up though, because my Accord's got cracked and puked the fluid all over the bay. I really don't want that to happen to this car now haha. It's starting to discolor, where it meets and clamps the upper hose, so it's kind of knock on woods at this point, but I think it should be fine. When this is done, the car should have no more leaking issues whatsoever!

EDIT: Got the car back! The vibration has noticeably reduced, but it's still out there since two of the other engine mount pieces are from Innovative's. No more leaking from the radiator, as well. Took it for a spin and noticed that this car's Vtec sounds like my Accord's SRI actually. I thought it was the metal-scraping / air-whistling sound, like a jet engine from an airplane, but that was coming from the CAI sucking the air when I was stepping on the gas. My impression of CAI's Vtec sound is that it's hard to hear the engagement like SRI's, but having both of these now in comparison, I'd say my CAI is loud enough to tell the engagement. It just roars out loud like an electric guitar lol. Maybe even louder than my Accord's farty SRI.

Updated the list below. This car is so much fun to drive, I really can't stop smiling every time I drive lol. Because of that, my Pirellis are getting ready to go out as well. Kept a pair of nearly driven Falkens that came with the car back then, so I think I'm going to get a pair of new Falkens to match them soon. Also, the used HID ballast I had it replaced previously, only lasted for a month. Found another used OEM ballast on ebay, so we'll see how this one holds up next time. Once the car gets a better traction, I'll probably be able to smile more.

Got a pair of new Falkens to semi-match my old Falkens, and had the wheels aligned at the shop. Car's quieter, and more stable regardless of wet / dry road condition now. It's so much fun to feel the acceleration on any gears throughout all RPM range, even on the wet roads.

Found out that the window films on this car were poorly applied on top of the original window films lol. Went out to get this film adhesive remover spray, referred by my IG 6GA buddy, and removed the front side window sections with the razor blade that conveniently came with the spray. Was a bit worried about my level of the procedures at first, but it actually came out very clean, and it was a bit more fun and feeling kind of satisfying, rather than frustrating to remove them all lol. It's a bit of a fishbowl-looking up in the front now, but they're so much clear and easer to see the outside world. Way better than the blurry and scratchy views of the aged purple tints, I mean, window films.

I just purchased the parts to refresh my J32 for the swap. Hopefully if everything goes well, the motor pops out of my CL this week and refreshing begins. Hoping to have the motor dropped into the Accord and running/driving by end of June.

Sometimes, I hear people saying that the later J-series motors made after J32's in the year around '03+ are pretty much drive by wire, and those cars tend to have a little annoying throttle hang, when you let off the gas, which feels kind of bad. Maybe that's something you're experiencing? But I've seen both stock 3G TLS6 vs 2G CLS6 being a dead heat, too though. I hear that the J32a2 is the best motor to build it, but it lacks the ECU tuning. Overall, the J32a2 is a great motor for the lighter 6GA; it's a match made in heaven -- a heavenly winning power-weight ratio. Oh, how about chipping your TL with Hondata or something then? That might be fun, if it's compatible.
