This is a question for those of you living in snowy areas. So recently my car started leaking gasoline at the interface between the gas tank and main fuel line. I took it to a shop and they said both the fuel and brake lines were starting to rust, and is common in accord this age in new england. They wanted $700 to replace both. I had him patch up the fuel line leak, but haven't done anything with the brakes yet. Has anyone else had this problem, and how difficult would it be to replace the brake line myself?

You have a few options -

1 - Patch the lines where they're worse than other areas with some standard brake line sections from your parts store.

2 - Buy new OEM lines and replace them yourself

3 - Buy some copper/nickel alloy line (25ft roll) and some nylon fuel line, few misc fittings, and do them yourself and never worry about it again.

At my dealer - we generally do #2 or #3.

I did both my rear brake lines and fuel lines for less than $80. Bought a roll of brake line and a roll of nylon fuel line with copper adapters. Not a fun project and I did mine in the middle of winter but only took a few hrs. When you take the plastic casing off that covers the brake and fuel lines be ready to break it off and plan on the other lines breaking as well.
