Just wanted to get the opinions of those who watch. I know Speed carried wayyy too much Nascar, but they also carried a lot of other forms of racing/car programming. IMO, I'm a little disheartened to see that auto racing is taking an even further back seat to other major sports.

I always enjoyed turning on Speed and watching Dirt racing from around the country. However, I also tuned in to watch the drift events, F1, V8 Supercars, etc.

    What do you guys think?

Speed Network here for the most part was only good on Saturdays, with the specialty shows.

They did show FAR too much NASCAR and other track racing, but PINKS! was the exception.

There does need to be a channel dedicated to all things cars, though, regardless of how popular some shows may be over others.

Are you talking about Speedvision? Or is this another cable channel? Sorry I know nothing about cable, I’ve never had it haha. I wish I did though, I’d love to watch F1 and LeMans.

I hear all the time that NASCAR is the most watched sport in America…I don’t see why showing a lot of it would cause a channel to be unpopular.

Unpopular with the non-NASCAR racing crowd

I understood why they showed so much Nascar, being that it is the most popular form of auto racing in the country. However, it seemed that was all they had to show (that, and Barrett Jackson :lawl:).

I liked watching the off road trucks and a bunch of other events. I just wish they would have had more programming from of the smaller touring series within the country like USAC, the World of Outlaws, Nascar Modifieds, RallyAmerica, IHRA and drag racing, and more. There were a lot of "reality" type shows on the channel that I wished they replaced for actually racing and car enthusiast programming.

Right, but if it is in fact the most watched sport, that would have meant viewship would be high. Meaning the number of people watching it would outnumber the people not watching it, so they would still be getting good numbers. But I don't know, I'm not in the biz.

No, Speed Channel...maybe it started out as Speedvision

Exactly, even the folks around me that are MAJOR racing fans despise what Nascar has become.

^Ah okay. If it's a racing channel, show racing. Not the drama that surrounds that particular industry.

Nascar's popularity is in a major decline...There was a huge increase in popularity from the mid-90's to a few years ago. All the folks who suddenly became Nascar fans around that time are losing interest and Nascar drove away the fans that had watched for the past 40-50 years.

When your "bread and butter" programming is declining, your station is not going to do well.
