should have just called this the redneck racing channel everytime i surf pass this channel, it's either: 1. NASCAR 2. rebuilding of old school american trucks 3. auctioning of old american cars awesome lineup
ftfy I wouldn't say that it was a "redneck" channel. Nascar is certainly not a redneck thing anymore. In fact, most of the drivers in Nascar are from well-off Northern families. Plus, no redneck is going to the Barrett-Jackson car auction. I feel like they tried to fit other stuff around their Nascar programming when they should have fit a bunch of that Nascar programming around the other different types of racing from around the country or world.
Restoring classic cars is appreciated all over the world, I’ve seen old collectors who fix up trucks, but then have a classic Rolls, Aston Martin, or Maserati sitting right next to it. And car auctions are pretty fascinating if you understand the market and how the auction works. I went to the Auburn auction in Indiana one year, and I knew nothing about Cords, Auburns, Duesies, etc…but found it to be really interesting.
The people that enjoy NASCAR actually GO to the races, they don't watch it on tv...guess that would affect viewership. Don't really watch the auctions myself, but I can appreciate the work that goes in to restoring a classic. I remember the good ol' days when Speed Network used to show drifting.....I guess since FnF moved away from that, there was no more interest in showing it on tv. Spike TV is about the only other option, at least here, to see anything auto related.....and it's more reality tv than quality automotive television.
This is false, attendance at Nascar events has been dropping steadily. Now they cover up entire sections of stands with sponsor logos and even position the cameras so that those watching at home can't see just how few people are there. I'm actually hearing that there should be increased coverage. Now they are supposedly going to show practice, qualifying, and the race.
As disappointing as it will be to see Speed go to the wayside, I'm really hoping that Fox Sports 1 can compete with ESPN. I'm so sick of ESPN's bias in all things sports.
Another ESPN? I'm just gonna chime in and say that's gonna suck with no Speed Channel anymore. That's where I watch the Continental Series, updates on the WRC every now and then, and especially the MotoGP. But I got a cable channel called VelocityHD, and lately it's been showing some British Motor racing and a few other car shows. Hopefully it can pick up where the Speed Channel leaves off.
