01-02 rear coupe bumper

Soo i recently got a new bumper and i wanted to swap it with the one i had. While doing this i notice that there is this lip spoiler thing on it, I have never even realized it was there I thought it was just part of the bumper.

i was looking at my gf's 01 and it doesn't have that piece so i was looking at cgs while i was out today and i think that piece only comes on the v6 models

what's the point on that piece anyways? i noticed i had one when my car got painted
