A/C not turning on right away

Howdy y'all, been a long-time lurker and just posting for the first time.

I've been searching around the forums looking for an answer but nothing has helped my situation-
My A/C sometimes takes up to a few minutes for the system and the lights to turn on and will also turn off randomly sometimes. I'm led to believe this is due to a poor connection somewhere, but I really don't know too much about all that. Has anyone else had a similar issue and found a resolution? Thanks

Not to say this may be it, but it is easier than chasing connections to attempt a fix..... If the freon in the system is too low, the compressor will not come on as often as it should. Due to the lack of pressure that is needed to trigger the clutch via the electric press switch. A decent gauge, and a quick check would help eliminate at least one possibility. Good luck either way-
