Some flush has a metal 'ball' with a diaphragm in the middle, some are a long tube with a free-floating piston in the middle. There may be others.

Most are setup so you put NEW atf in the top. then you have 2 lines,

open trans cooler line, now you have 2

new line to cooler
old line 'from' trans

start. run/rev till full.

disconnect/reconnect

now you have 'tube' filled with old fluid! and a clean car!!

Warning:
Expect MIL for cars that compare TO & FROM pressure, like Honda
Use ~12qt on ~3qt D&F, 9qt total to make up for lost fluid

When your manual says do a D&F every 15kMi, can you do the whole thing at 45k? Or 60k?

I don't f'kin know. I do D&F at ~10k, so this balances out. Takes less time than a LOF.

Get ATF and drain plug sealing washer (!!!!!) at Honda.

xci,

it's quite clear that you are the guru in this forum so i was wondering if you could explain some of the jargon you just used? i understood some of them like
d&f => drain and flush
atf => auto trans fluid
but some are completely beyond me...
mil?
lof?

Also, i don't understand this line:
Some flush has a metal 'ball' with a diaphragm in the middle, some are a long tube with a free-floating piston in the middle. There may be others.

MIL = malfunction indicator light
same as
CEL = check engine light

LOF = normal jargon, for Lube Oil Filter

Yup.

Get one of these, and I'll tell you how.

(I will, but it is useless on the Accord, works great on actual Suzuki's--F'k the Forenza)

No, the tube was sweet, like 6' long 6" diam CLEAR tube, with a piston instead of diaphragm. So you could see what went in/out!

Chezik-Bell Honda (was HWY1 Iowa City) had one, if anyone works there and can grab a pic...

That was my homemade one, out of a grass-weed thing (well, that not my diy)
